Majorca in September

DS first holiday, he will be 20 months. Is this a good time of year to visit?

Weather wise - is it likely to be too hot or cooler than the summer months? I read it can rain quite a bit?

Would the Canary Islands be a better option? It's our first sun holiday in a long time and I want it to be nice Grin

September is one of the most pleasant months to visit Majorca! Temperatures begin to drop but not drastically so, although they’re obviously higher in the first two weeks than at the end of the month. The sea is a perfect temperature as it’s had all summer to warm up. The mountains give the south coast drier weather.

I went to Majorca last September thinking it would be a bit cooler than August. Nope, over 30c every day.
Fuerteventura always seems to be a bit cooler. Went there in August 2019 and barely got above 25c which suited me fine!

Majorca is great in September. Weather still warm but the school holiday peak season crowds have largely gone.

We used to go quite a lot when our kids were small because my in-laws had an apartment there.

When the kids reached school age and we were tied to school holidays we would go in the October half term. It was still quite nice even then. Cooler but not cold. Not crowded either but enough things still open.

Ah I'm sure it will be gorgeous. We always used to go away in early September before kids and then before they started school and typically had fab weather in Spain, Portugal, Balearic Islands etc.

SingingSands · 21/02/2023 13:43

Majorca is so much nicer than the Canaries and a shorter flight too.

YesYou · 21/02/2023 14:01

I don't like Majorca because I get eaten alive there. I won't go back now. I love fuerteventura though

Choconut · 21/02/2023 14:04

I think Mallorca is much, much nicer than the Canaries. I would go for it.

Last September 30 degrees in Majorca - Tenerife was cooler. I like both

Mrsjayy · 21/02/2023 15:25

We were in Majorca last September into October it was lovely and warm.

ButteryNuts · 21/02/2023 15:30

Went to Majorca first week of September last year. The mornings were overcast most day but the afternoon was sunny and 30c.

ImSorryThatWasJustANoise · 21/02/2023 15:54

I have one of the best holiday memories in Majorca in September when our DS was really little.

Zipps · 21/02/2023 16:40

Early September is lovely, we've been in late September and the weather was still good but with the odd cloudy day.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/02/2023 07:23

It's a very much 'it depends' question and what your definition of hot is. Plus when in September you mean (just after August or nearly October can make a difference) and when the storm comes (there's a fairly reliable storm that goes through the Med some time in September which could mean a few days bad weather before settling down for a few more weeks of sun).

As for which is nicer, that also depends. Puerto Pollensa vs Playa de las Americas Tenerife or Playa Blanca Lanzarote vs Magaluf?

If you have plenty of money and want the sea to be warm, I'd probably go to a nice part of Mallorca (or Menorca, that's quieter and good for families) in early September but if you don't constantly wanting to be feeling like 'ooh that's a bit expensive' (nice Mallorca is quite expensive compared with the Canaries and flights are often more expensive even though it's nearer) and are less bothered about the sea temperature but want pretty much zero chance of rain, I'd go to one of the quieter parts of the Canaries any time in September that you want to.

Mindymomo · 22/02/2023 07:29

I would go early September rather than late. We went late September and had 3 good sunny days, then each day after was a little cooler. The hotel where we stayed was almost full, but each day there were less and less people and by the last night only about a quarter of the restaurant was being used.

cptartapp · 22/02/2023 07:41

We preferred Menorca when our DC were that age.

CosyFanTucci · 22/02/2023 07:44

September and October are great months to visit Mallorca. Will still be hot but fewer crowds.

cazzyg · 22/02/2023 14:56

Went in September with an 18 month old and the temperature was just perfect.

somethingslastforever · 22/02/2023 16:27

Thanks everyone. Thinking 2nd week of September. I preferred the shorter flight duration - 4.45 hours to the canaries with a toddler that's never flown before is giving me the fear Grin so long as it's above 20 degrees I'm sure we'll be happy lol!

The sea was perfectly warm - like a nice warm bath. It's a really lovely time to go.
