Both our DC are now at uni but are still keen to come on holiday for us in the summer, so long as we can find a week when they do not have other plans! DH and i are very pleased about this. They will be 19 and 20 in the summer. We think we have tied down a week, possibly even 10 days (DD2 just checking dates of one plan), so now need to decide where to go.
Our usual summer holiday since they have been older teens has been Greek Islands (a few different ones over the years, all of which we have loved). However, DD1 is going Greek island hopping with friends so we want to try somewhere different. I would love to get some suggestions of what has worked well with that age group.
Main criteria in the past have been as follows, but we are open to any suggestions:
- Sunny
- On/near a beach
- Walking distance or short taxi to some nightlife for the DC (can be fairly gentle nightlife)
- Easy to get around, either by bus or hire car
- Other things to do apart from lying by the pool/beach, e.g. in Greece we tend to hire little boats and explore local coves; DC might have a day at the water park; we might explore a couple of local towns or historic sites
Ideally Europe rather than long-haul. I was thinking Croatia as we can visit Split or Dubrovnik plus also an island or two, but wondering if it might be too similar to greek islands.
