Long Haul ideas for July

Have two weeks off in June or July (before school hols). Dh and I want to fly somewhere long haul. We want a bit of beach and some history/culture.

AI type mega resorts are not our style. Usually do b&b or self cater, or smaller hotels.

I know Europe is at its best in June/July but we want to explore more, and can do Europe when we only have a 1 week chunk of leave to take rather than 2 weeks.

Any suggestions?

July can be tricky for weather long haul. Bali is ok (although I’d hesitate to recommend as a destination) or you could look at Koh Samui area or Seychelles.

We looked into various countries and in the end opted for the US. Asia has rain season, Australia is too far away and DD isn't good for a safari.

Originally we looked to fly to Hawaii with a break in San Fran on the way back.

We now are booked to go to Boston and the Newport in Rhodes Island.

Sri Lanka is an option for July (June is still rainy) and is a great option for a 2 week break. Flights are pretty expensive year unfortunately though.

It won't be super-hot, but try Mauritius? It is more or less on the same time zone and roads are pretty good (compared with the state of our English roads in the sticks).

Visit the tea plantations and Temples. There is a massive Hindu pilgrim site up in the rain-forest.

There is a fair-sized expat community, so self catering is easy.

The Caribbean will be hot and sticky

How about Malaysia? July is a great time to visit for a lot of the country. You could fly into KL stop there for a couple of nights and then go onto somewhere like Malacca for the history/culture. Then go to the East Coast for the beach?

Or Borneo? Or Vietnam (if careful on itinerary)

I went to Mauritius in September just as they're coming out of their winter and I wore a cardigan on the beach. I'm ginger and didn't bother with sun cream some days - though tbf I kept to the shade on those days. I agree with the culture but if you want heat I wouldn't say July is the best time.
