Tell me about Sicily - flights to Catania

Never been. Planning 10 days in September, Dh would prefer Palermo but flights are tricky from Brussels. I am thinking a few days in Taormina - trip to Etna, and some days in Syracuse which looks gorgeous. Would prefer not to hire a car if public transport is possible. Agrigento looks fab but is quite far. Any recommendations?

Following with interest as we’re going to Sicily in June, staying in Cefalu. We’ve pre booked the taxi from the airport, so no worries there.
We are hoping to go on day trips to interesting places so thanks whitreroseredrose.
It looks like the train goes around the edge of the island, does anyone know it it’s easy to use and is frequent?

Trains are very easy to use. Just remember to stamp your ticket before getting on the train. Check out the Trenitalia website, it can be navigated in English and there is also good info on The Trainline website about trains in Sicily including a map.

@Beebumble2 you are going to love Cefalu , it’s so beautiful. Amazing beach and so many nice restaurants (and lots of ice cream). Many day trips can also booked there for example a boat trip to Stromboli which is a fantastic experience (you can see the lava float into the water)
we had amazing weather last June, hot and sunny every day.
