2 night ski trip cost

Considering joining my friends on their ski trip for 2 nights. So would only get 1 full day and a morning skiing. Won't have to pay for chalet but approx £1000 for flights, ski hire, lift pass & transfers (plus whatever i spend on booze/food). Is this crazy for 1.5 days of skiing?
Can't go for longer due to childcare.

I really love skiing but too me £700 per day seems an awful lot of money to spend. Ultimately it depends on your leisure budget and how much you want to ski.
Without accommodation it seems a lot but depends when and how you're traveling and time poor may mean expensive options.

PuttingDownRoots · 14/02/2023 14:59

Depends on how much you like skiing and what hour disposable income is.

DH priced up a week at that per person for a lads holiday, I think including food

TizerorFizz · 14/02/2023 14:59

Yes. Just ludicrous

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 14/02/2023 15:25

I suppose it depends on what income you have, some people spend thousands and thousands on a watch, and it probably doesn't even have a cuckoo coming out on the hour.

TizerorFizz · 14/02/2023 18:40

I’ve still got my expensive watches! 30 years being a Rolex owner. Better than skiing for longevity and enjoyment!

iusedtobeasize8 · 14/02/2023 18:41

Ridiculous

LookingOldTheseDays · 14/02/2023 18:54

No. It's not even just about the price - the travel time and faffing around wouldn’t be worth it for just 1.5 days skiing.

WestOfWestminster · 14/02/2023 18:57

I don't even think its the money here, its also the effort involved for a day and a half of skiing. Is all the faff getting there, packing, sorting out the kids beforehand worth it?

MinnieMountain · 14/02/2023 20:28

DH tried 2 full days. He concluded that 3 full days is the bare minimum.

Ticketybloop · 15/02/2023 22:03

Where are they skiing?? 1k sounds like a lot. In high season, we pay around 65ish per day for lift pass (depending on region) and maybe 50/day for ski hire, which comes to €230. Your transport must be really expensive as it‘s just you… is there a way you can use a budget airline?? We’re a family of 5 and I usually budget a max of 1k/person/week for a week of lift passes, ski hire, transport, and lodging in a self catering apartment.

rookiemere · 15/02/2023 22:08

Yes that is a crazy amount. What if it's snowing or raining on your one full day ?

Emiribnessteema · 15/02/2023 22:10

Omg that's mad, please tell me you aren't really considering this? The environmental aspect of flying for 1.5 days aside! It's ridiculous

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 15/02/2023 22:56

I don’t think I’d feel like going for one day. But also to spend that on one day???

Sunsetintheeast · 16/02/2023 10:02

As a fairly fanatical skier I still think it’s a bit nuts. If your friends can get your pass and you can go first lift, last lift, it may be worth it. BUT I’ve lost many a day to bad weather over the years… what then, £700 per day to sit in the bar.

Morzine was 20 degrees the other day. Global warming isn’t a joke, not sure these sort of trips are a good idea, but that said flights are the same even if a bigger gap between.

Havanananana · 16/02/2023 14:12

As others have said, lift pass plus ski rental can't come to much more than £200 for 1.5 days, so since accommodation is free, what on earth is costing the other £800?

Personally I wouldn't bother going for just 2 days anyway - and spending £1,000 plus food and drink (plus presumably UK car parking and/or transport) seems a crazy amount - unless you really do have that much disposable cash sloshing around, in which case you probably wouldn't be asking anyone on MN for their opinion.
