Thailand

I'm going to Thailand next month and have planned to travel from Koh Lipe back to Bangkok airport via Hat Yai airport on the last day to catch an 8pm flight. Not having realised quite how far south Koh Lipe is I'm now wondering if this is realistic? Those who have been, do the morning ferries tend to leave the island on time? Thanks

We just travelled from krabi to Bangkok for a next day flight. We flew because the budget airlines are such good value. Even so our flight was delayed and I think it would have been v v stressful trying to do it on the same day.
Not very reassuring I realise

I would imagine the morning ferry would give you enough time but there would always be a small risk of something going wrong.

You will probably get more responses on a specialised travel forum like TripAdvisor.

Yes the ferries around those islands are usually on time, have been there several times and no issues. If you are worried about the schedule being too tight, can always book a private transfer instead.

Oh and check that you book the HKT-Bangkok flight to the correct airport, BKK and DMK are not exactly close.

For me a sea transfer, then a land transfer, then a flight would be too many potential cluster fucks before I got on an international flight. If the Hat Yai to Bangkok flight was booked on the same ticket as the international flight (so no need to collect baggage and do customs etc) then I would consider it but otherwise I think I’d want a night in bkk as security.

@orangelotus @trrk @Orangello @TheMousePipes Thank you all for your responses. As it happens I got a message yesterday saying our internal flight has been changed from 4pm to 8pm! I've cancelled the whole Koh Lipe part of the trip which is a shame as it looks stunning there but we now have a much less stressful plan in place!

Thankfully your airline made your decision for you. There are lots of flight cancellations and long delays in SE Asia at the moment. Just had one from Kuala Lumpur to Vientiane cancelled for next month. Only alternative is two flights and hours between them at Bangkok airport and much more expensive.

You'll have a wonderful time in any case.
Safe travels
