How young would you travel with a baby?

So DS was 18 months when we first came abroad it was a 4 hour flight. We are planning a second baby and having done the holiday thing with our first child we said we would take our second child abroad a lot earlier than 18 months....
Thoughts?

I am expecting now, and plan to go away as soon as physically possible. Better to go sooner - at least they’re stationary as little ones.

If you are breastfeeding then under 6 months is easiest as all they need are your breasts!

1st child we went to Spain at 12 weeks, second one did long haul to Thailand at 12 months - both fine

As early as possible, the less they move the easier it is. We would have done 2 or 3 months but wasn't rught time of year so went abroad at 6 and 8 months old, very easy and were great holidays

I took DC1 at 3 months, to visit family. Enough time to get a passport and to feel confident , and still very portable.

Although more difficult if you are juggling a baby plus toddler.

first child was 9 months for a holiday. second was 9 weeks but that was by car and because it was for a family funeral so we could stop off etc.

The second time DC1 was 11 months old and toddling. DH thought we’d have a relaxing holiday. Ho ho ho.

it was overseas by the way, by euro tunnel so you can move about, not by plane.

Both have mine have been 8-12 weeks for first plane travel. Family is all abroad and wanted to meet the baby. Actually much easier at that age than the following years when they were more... inquisitive, confident and free moving 😅

I'd go much sooner next time! With DD we were planning a trip for when she was 8 weeks, just after her 8 week jabs and before her 12 week ones, and then covid came along and so she didn't go abroad until she was 2.5yo 🙄🙄😂😂 we did do a UK holiday when she was about 6 months though in between lockdowns

From three months. Three to 9 months, easy. Then I'd avoid if possible between 9 months and second birthday.

I'd be happy to take a young baby from about 8 weeks on a flight for up to 4 hours I think. Mainly because they just breast feed on repeat at that age and it would feel relatively easy for me to handle. I'm reluctant to take my 1 yr old on any flight more than 2.5 hours because she's so restless and not easily distracted. We're planning on going away in June just to Spain or somewhere and I'm dreading the flight! From around 2 yrs they become more easily distractable again so I'd be happy to do a 3-4 hour flight.
