Eurocamp-style places in northern France

I'm looking at various camp sites for May half term. DS wants a sandy beach. DD wants a swimming pool. I don't want to be in a tent. DH wants to spend as little money as possible.

Any recommendations?

Look at Yelloh. They are a French company that have lots of sites, some of which have eurocamp sections so are perfect! We stayed at Mane Guernehue (or spelt similar) last year. Kids loved it, nice modern static caravan and cheaper than booking through eurocamp. Great pool area as well.

This is a lovely site, short walk from a quiet sandy beach: www.tohapi.co.uk/brittany/campsite-atlantique-fouesnant.php

Yes, we were in Yelloh villages twice in recent years, really good family accommodation and amenities.

La Croix du Vieux Pont (Eurocamp) might fit the bill. It's about 3 hrs from Calais. It's Eurocamps closest site to Disney but that's by the bye. It's not on the coast but has a sandy beached swimming lake as well as a 'proper' pool. Lots of on-site activities, fairly near decent supermarket for self-catering but there's a restaurant and takeaway on site too.
Park des Felins zoo is do-able from there, and there are lots of historic sites around.

Great, thanks for the suggestions. I keep clicking on sites that look lovely, but then find out that the pool will be closed until June. No good for half term!

I think that might be the issue with France as the pools will not be heated and they are not busy until the main summer season - off season holidays like May half term are a lot less common

Have a look at owners direct - these are privately owned vans on sites in France and are a lot lot more reasonable for the summer months than with the company direct

knackeredmu · 10/02/2023 07:38

And vans in the Uk too

In Northern France in May, you’ll definitely want an indoor pool, or at least a heated pool if outdoor. Le Port de Plaisance has a warm indoor swimming complex with waterslides, plus an additional three heated outdoor pools.

tweedlee · 10/02/2023 07:43

You may have to go further south. We've done these 2 sites at may half term

Those both look beautiful - and cheap! - but we're only going for 4 nights so it's just too far.

We stayed at Des Menhirs (eurocamp) last summer, it’s in Carnac, Brittany.
they have an indoor pool as well as outdoors with slides.
lovely seaside town, gorgeous beach.

Was literally just about to come on and say Des Menhirs! It's lovely!

Noneedtobemean · 10/02/2023 08:18

Domaine Des Ormes in Brittany has a heated indoor pool, with a lazy river leading to an outdoor pool.

LampLass · 10/02/2023 08:29

Chateau de galinee has an indoor pool and is 3km from beautiful beaches/ pretty town. Also only 20mins drive from st malo for the ferry if time is short?

We've also stayed here! Really nice. Carnac is a lovely place. There is a large collection of standing stones and Neolithic stuff nearby.

Look at Centerparcs - De Haan. There isn't a May half term holiday in Belgium so avoiding BH weekends you can get a bargain. It's about 1 hour from Calais. See also Duinrell, but that's a further drive. Also look at Roompot.com

MeghanThyStallion · 10/02/2023 20:45

I had a browse of Yelloh and we've booked! We're going to Les Isles in Normandy. I even convinced DH to book the top-end accommodation :o

Thanks for your great tips. We've been to Center Parcs in Belgium nearly every May half term since the DC were 5 and 2, but fancied a change (and for them to have some practice speaking French).

In case anyone else is looking, there's a eurocamp site at Guînes near Calais. You can book direct.
