Ideas help please - Easter city break DC 8, 11 and me

Hello everyone

Wondering if anyone had ideas for a short Easter break for me and DS 8 and 11 ( this Easter).

Looking for 3-4 nights so was thinking a city break. Had been thinking Rome but am considering doing that October half term instead ( need a hotel with triple ideally and the ones I’ve seen recommended all booked for Easter plus I’m guessing better weather then).

As it’s just me and them somewhere that’s relatively easy and safe ( I don’t drive).

Ideally somewhere warmish ( mid teens) which is tricky with Easter being early.

Any ideas or hotel recs gratefully received! We’ve done lots of U.K. city breaks - York, Birmingham, Bath, Liverpool, Brighton ( live in London).

We're going to Barcelona with DC 11 and 13. Booked an apartment through VRBO so have three bedrooms. DH and I have been before but DC are now busy researching fun things to do. Top of the list is the hop on hop off bus, which they are excited had two routes in Barcelona! There's lots of things to see and we are hoping it will be slightly warmer than UK.

Barcelona was one I was thinking of - eldest is also football obsessed and youngest loves aquariums so am thinking could be something for each!

we also love a hop on hop off bus!

If you've never been to Glasgow/Edinburgh I'd highly recommend it. Even if you don't go for this holiday. It's super easy to navigate, public transport was fantastic, plenty of Premier Inns to stay in.

Glasgow Science Centre--DD loved this we went twice.
INTU Brae head for sledging / High Ropes and Climbing / chocolate making / trampoline Park. The sledging was brilliant as we don't have much snow or hills on the Norfolk coast.
Edinburgh Zoo
Edinburgh Castle
Arthur's Seat.

We didn't but you could do a coach trip into the Highlands.

Thanks - I haven’t actually been to either Glasgow or Edinburgh with the kids actually ( I’m from the borders so been a lot myself - perhaps that’s why I haven’t thought of it!). Maybe will take a look at Edinburgh

Barcelona, Rome or Dubrovnik.

Barcelona is fab - also Seville and Granada. They have the huge Semana Santa processions in Andalucia at Easter.

Barcelona is a great city break with kids. There's loads to do - Poble Espamyol, cable car up to Montjuic, Montjuic fountains show, beach, Tibidabo theme park, Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell, stadium tour. All the tapas and churros. We did a family friendly walking tour too which was really interesting. I want to go back now...

I would stay away from Rome over Easter, it will be mayhem.

Lisbon or Barcelona would be my choices if you want a bit warmer weather.

We are off to Prague this year.

I would avoid Germany as lots of attractions and restaurants are closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Runrabbitrunn · 05/02/2023 17:13

Thanks all - and agree re avoiding Rome at Easter ( was thinking if the days before but suspect busy even so).

Think I’ve decided will stay in the U.K. and combine a visit to where I’m from with Edinburgh. Then go to Rome in October half term.

Will definitely make it to Barcelona with the kids though at some point ( have been to most of these lances pre kids but that was a long time ago and somehow more daunting when I’ve got them as well!)

Palma. Quick flight. Beach. City. No transfer

TheDead · 06/02/2023 10:45

I would recommend Prague, krakow or gdansk - all great with teens

Almost anywhere in Spain would be nice at Easter and I've honestly never had a shit city break in Spain! We've done Bilbao, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Malaga and Seville and I'd recommend them all (although Madrid not great with kids - great for an adult break though as lovely museums. There is the Bernabeu stadium though!)
