I think the title says it all really! From what I can see from the map, I think Dijon would be a good choice.... but am very interested in mumsnetters' views.

Thanks very much in advance

We did Calais Rochefort via Rouen
Stopped off in a fabulous Logis de France in La Suze s/ Sarthe, just south of Le Mans
Really memorable

Yes I was a bit taken aback to see Maporama recommend round Paris too Lilymaid
We didn't have the bottle either
But I like the Western route anyway - it feels more festive

We stayed in another fabulous Logis de France in Vaas - a few miles on in Sarthe from Marina's but brilliant food and comfortable accommodation in an old school house in a lovely village.

ooh thank you for that info. I too feel a bit nervous of the round paris thing!

Reading this to pick up some tips too, we are off to Aix last 2 weeks in Aug. We always have a night, either there or back, in Chateau De Montrueil, Hotel L@Univers in Arras is good, doesn't break the bank. Calais to Dijon is about 5 hours, and then roughly another 5 on to the South. hth
