Anyone had a bag missing at Heathrow with BA.......

If so I would welcome your advice especially from anyone in the industry. My parents arrived back from a trip to my brothers in Oz two weeks ago and the case has still not appeared. It is apparantly 'lost at Heathrow' and there is nothing we can do until 21 days have elapsed. My parents are retired and I guess because they are a bit older are really very upset with all of this and the hassle. They have a lot of sentimental stuff in the case including presents for me and baby. The people at the call centre number we have been given to ring have not been very helpful at all. I would just like someone's view on a] whether there is any chance the case will turn up (its now 14 days overdue) and b] what else we can do. My parents didn't take out travel insurance and so are reliant on the airline for compensation. Any advice most grateful, thankyou!

I would insist and insist especially if the case is labelled clearly and easily identifiable e.g straps , ties, name and address inside and out. If it is not then it will be tough .
If you have a world tracer number- from the PIR then it should help to find it. BA have had some terrible reports on lost cases at LGW /LHR .
I hope it turns up ....

BA lost my bag, but it was couriered to my house within two days. If it's been missing for a fortnight, it doesn't look hopeful. Sorry. THe problem is, if it's lost, it's lost and the person at the end of the phone simply cannot do anything to help. Hope it turns up soon. They should give you compensation though - do be totally clear about what was in the bag, and how much it was worth.

Thank you both for your responses. Rosa what is the world tracer number from the PIR? Sorry I didn't sleep well last night.

If you look on the documentation that was filled out when the bag was lost the form is called a property iregularity report ( PIR). You should have a number on there which is called the world tracer it is usually a 8 letter / number ( I think) . You can go on Ba web site and log it in and see if there is any news on where the bag is.
