Hi all,

I'm in the fortunate position of having free business class flights anywhere in the world.
I'm not particularly flush but not skint. I Want to take my lovely partner & 18 year old dd on a special trip as I'm coming out of a long illness & they've been fabulous.

Wants:lovely sunshine, pools, beach. Cool hip bars, beach bars markets.

We've loved-: miami, Los Angeles, Ibiza, barbados.

Fancy something totally different - a bit off beat, a bit different but still stylish with places to dress up & beach bar chilled music flop.

Open to hotels or villas or apartments
Anywhere in the world.

Where can you suggest? Where is your secret place

If you like America, San Diego is fabulous.

Or how about Skiathos in Greece for a totally different vibe?

Shunkleisshiny · 28/01/2023 15:03

South Carolina, beautiful beaches, the historic cities of Savannah and Charleston, lovely people, national parks, great food, fantastic weather. We love the town Beaufort it has just got a great vibe. Hoping to go back there next year.

Margo34 · 28/01/2023 15:05

Mexico!

beachcitygirl · 28/01/2023 15:07

I should say I've been everywhere. (Country wise) so if it's not too cheeky can you suggest particular towns/hotels etc
I like the sound of Skiathos but where?
Where in Mexico would you suggest @Margo34
And I agree San Diego sounds fun but with an 18 year old in tow we couldn't get into bars etc
It's not that I want to be pissed every night but would like the option of getting in a late night bar.

I loved Bel Ombre in Mauritius, stared at the Heritage Awali, or Mahe in the Seychelles, stayed at the Constance Ephelia

Hyperion100 · 28/01/2023 15:14

South Africa

Amazing food scene and bars
Incredible beaches
Cheap when you get there
No jet lag

whoruntheworldgirls · 28/01/2023 15:16

Sorry just re read, might not fit with what you'd like re hip bars, beach bars markets, a bit off beat etc.
Gorgeous places to relax though and both had great restaurants

Anapana · 28/01/2023 15:17

Fremantle in Western Australia has everything you want

Margo34 · 28/01/2023 15:21

@beachcitygirl the Yucatan area of Mexico, gulf of Mexico (definitely avoid Cancun). Tulum is quite nice, small, on the coast. Merida is nice and is fairly close to coast but not on the coast - easy day trips though.

mincepiesandsomemorr · 28/01/2023 21:20

Cinque Terre in Italy 🇮🇹

MeghanThyStallion · 28/01/2023 21:21

Another vote for Tulum in the Riviera Maya, Mexico. Fly to Cancun, rent a car and go exploring.

Marisquita · 28/01/2023 23:22

Argentina and Uruguay spring to mind, separately or together. Uruguay in particular is (as you probably know) a very manageable size, with attractive colonial architecture, vineyards, stunning beaches. You could fly to Buenos Aires for a glimpse of Argentina and then take the short ferry ride across the river (and border) to Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay, travel on to the capital Montevideo via a vineyard or two and also make a trip to ‘the Hamptons of the south’ at Punta del Este for glorious beaches and dress-up glamour.

loopyloutoo · 28/01/2023 23:30

Tulum yes but a bit dodgy right now from what I hear?

Absolutely loved Thailand - you could cover a few islands from Phuket - Koh Lanta, Railay, Phi Phi

Bali? Ubud/something busier

LibbyL92 · 28/01/2023 23:50

Isla Mujeres in Mexico. Stunning

Fairylightsandtea · 29/01/2023 00:04

Dakar in Sengal - really vibrant, young, cool place. Amazing music / arts / entrepreneurialism to experience (and excellent food / bars)

kateandme · 29/01/2023 06:29

It's not fancy like others on here so I fear it will be a somewhat lacking suggestion. But loved the dordogne. In a village villa.open space.green.smells.sights.locals.pool.marjets.dining.it was fantastic. Then moved across to the château viewing of the loire. And it's beautiful round there.andvon to Switzerland.to interkaken and the mountains trips. Coming back through Germany overnight.it is still our favourite holiday.spread out it was just relaxing enough.but exciting and adventurous too.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 29/01/2023 06:32

Another vote for South Africa although I went several years ago so can’t name specific places/hotels. Loved Capetown.

kateandme · 29/01/2023 11:40

My sister and a whole group of her friends just went to SA.she loved it.snd the pictures do look fabulous.like super stunning.they are single, parents, couples a mixed lot and they all loved it.if its somewhere you are interested in I can ask her for details.

MangosteenSoda · 29/01/2023 11:50

I was also going to say South Africa. There are tons of lovely hotels to choose from in Cape Town, so I’d start by choosing which part of town you want to stay in. Camps Bay for beachy vibes or downtown for cool bars and restaurants. Visit wineries and have the tasting menus.

Think about staying in a couple of other places nearby too. My personal choice would be a downtown stay in CT with lots of day trips to all of the usual sights, a night at a really lovely winery in Franschhoek and Paternoster for a couple of super chilled out beach days. I have a soft spot for Hermanus too if I just wanted to stay in the cape area. I’m not a big fan of driving the Garden Route.

If you want to add a Safari in, I’d fly up to one of the national parks rather than go to one of ‘game experience’ type of places that are within driving distance of CT.

beachcitygirl · 29/01/2023 17:50

@kateandme quite the contrary. This sounds amazing! Any great hotels? Must do towns? I've never been to those areas despite my fave book as a kid being the chalet school - so my Interest is piqued.

Also loving the sound of Uruguay & sengal.

Would never have occurred to me. So thanks so much!

To those recommending Cape Town. I quite agree, incredible holiday that offers everything but I've been many times (I'm good for insider tips as it's one of my routes - I'm cabin crew)

But I'm stuck to school hols due other half job so this holiday will be in late June which puts SA out of the question weather wise (I'm craving sun)

What about Cambodia? Siem Reap a really cute town with loads of offerings for visitors, and the Angkor Wat complex is absolutely fascinating, plus there are some gorgeous hotels. (Raffles, Anantara, etc). You could always combine with one of the Cambodian or Thai islands for beach or a leg to Singapore if you want big city.

You could also try Vietnam. If you fly into Hanoi, you can pair a cruise around Ha Long Bay with an inland trip to Ninh Binh and then go south for some beaches.

Hong Kong is also open again, at long last. Such a cool city and worth a visit in its own right!
