Malta

I've booked Valletta for 7 nights. After reading MN I am now worried about the heat. It will be mid July. We found Singapore hot in April.

But I don't want to focus on that because it's booked. The hotel has a nice pool. We plan to eat out in Valletta, go to the silent city, Gozo for a day or two, and snorkel around. Anyone have anything positive to say about Malta?

DD is 11 and easy going.

I do get bored on beach holidays.

The people are lovely
Lots of history and culture
Delicious variety of food
Great for snorkelling ( take a boat ride to Gozo)
The locals neither drive on the right or the left, they drive in the shade😄

I think its called the 3 bay boat trip, this is very good. it takes you around valletta - we got a discount, might be worth haggling a little.

I also liked visiting all the little churches in valletta. Go to the cathedral early as its very busy. YOu get a lot of cruise ships coming in.

We went in August 2019 & it was baking hot. We slept late, spent the morning by the pool reading & swimming then went out late afternoon and stayed up late. Everything is open late because of the heat. It was a lovely holiday. As a pp said, the people are lovely and so is the food. You’re sure to have a great time.

It's a really interesting island, it may get hot but it's a dry one.

We spent a week there and while we also used the pool at the hotel, we mainly did a lot of sightseeing. It's a great island if you are up for more than a beach/pool all day long.

We used the local buses to tour the island - we had a wonderful time.

Good to hear about the buses, we're off in May and I been debating getting around, don't really want to hire a car as I'm looking for a relaxed holiday! Struggling to decide how to visit Gozo, jeep tour, bus, car as I really want to go to the Craft Village.
This is a website that tells you when the cruise ships dock so you can at least avoid Valletta when the really big ones are in.

Looking at Gozo too. Not sure whether to book an excursion or whether you can just go.

Wonder what time cruise ships arrive and leave as there nearly everyday we are!

If you click on the ship it takes you to itinerary, but some arrive at 8am and leave at 5pm. Some arrive a little later. Obviously you can't avoid them completely, but some of them are huge some maybe plan excursions out of Valletta on those days!

I loved Gozo - more than Malta mainland, you can get a ferry across throughout the day. The Bleu Lagoon is amazing, we also had a boat trip which was heaven! We went to the salt pans/flats in Gozo which was very interesting. It was quieter in Gozo and so pretty. Have a great time!

Go to Mdina too its a fab medieval walled town on a bus route and where the knights of Malta were based very atmospheric wandering the streets round the walls and lovely little cafes dotted around and of course Mdina glass which though not cheap is georgous

Malta is my favourite place! The whole country is beautiful. I could give you a list of places to go but honestly it would be endless. Valletta is gorgeous. Malleiha is very family friendly and has a nice beach. I do recommend a blue lagoon trip even though there will be crowds. Not going to lie the heat will be pretty brutal so don’t underestimate it! It’s boiling - it’s been 40+ before then I’ve been there in the summer. Stay in the shade, drink water and don’t plan a whole day of walking around the city, break it up with afternoons by the pool to cool off. You’ll love it. The people are lovely, food is amazing and everywhere you look is beautiful.

We loved Mdina @Isseywith3witchycats We went on the bus from Sliema one evening & caught the last bus back. My daughter called it the Nightbus as the journey back was like the one in the Harry Potter film. We were hanging on for dear life and killing ourselves laughing!
