Hi we would like to book a 3 day trip to Milan. We are looking to stay near to the centre or near to the train stations. I’ve read online that staying near Milan central is more dangerous for tourists. Staying near the Duomo is too expensive for a half decent hotel so I’m not sure what option to choose. Does anyone have any recommendations?

DP stayed at one called J24 last summer, which was near one of the main stations (not Milano Centrale). He liked it, but more importantly he was with my quite fussy mil and she was happy with it.

We liked Antica Locanda dei Mercanti, walking distance to Duomo etc. and Cadorna station for the airport train. Metro close by. We came to Milan by train into Centrale and walked to the hotel. Would absolutely not stay near Centrale-just because it’s a long way from anything you’d want to see or do.

Do you think it’s worth staying near to the main attractions then, even if it costs more?

Not stayed in a hotel in Milan as I live there, but have a look around the Navigli (canal) area. Easy to get to everything as there's the Porta Genova metro stop and train station. A new street food market has opened up in the bottom floor of Central Station btw, where you can eat very good fresh fish, pasta with truffles, gelato wine, to name a few - open until midnight 7 days a week. I bloody love it!

@thesonicoscillator love the look of that food market! Any suggestions for a restaurant for two adults and two 12/13 year old boys? We are staying in an aparthotel right by the Duomo in July for a night before driving up to Stresa

@LondonMummer tbh I go into the Duomo area only once every 10 years when friends come over from UK but it's not usually to eat! I took several colleagues to this place a few years ago & they liked it. It's in Brera so in the tourist area. When I go out to eat it's usually in the suburbs and occasionally the Navigli, Porta Venezia, De Angeli & Isola areas. www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g187849-d878420-Reviews-Ristorante_Nabucco-Milan_Lombardy.html#
