New Zealand/caravan holiday with autistic child

We are living in Asia for one year before we go back to the UK for work, and we would love to visit NZ.

Everyone recommends caravanning for 2 weeks, which we've not done before. Our 5yo autistic kid can be quite entrenched in his preferences, but he has surprised us in what he is open to. We've never been away from home for more than 4 nights though. He's not up for lots of walking, has lots sensory issues that we are trying to manage. I think he might enjoy the scenery, but the minute we start with screens, he will be asking for them all the time.

I guess I'm looking for input for anyone who has either travelled to NZ or caravanning with a small autistic child for the first time...

I've not been in that situation but could you hire one where you are for the weekend and see how he copes? That would be what I'd do. Though maybe not really a thing in Asia so difficult to find, I'm not sure. Personally for longer driving times I would let him have a screen, I don't know any child that likes scenery that much. Good luck it sounds like an exciting trip!

No caravans where I am in Asia - no infrastructure to support it.

I would be new for me too. I don't know if I would like it either tbh. But the idea of the same bed/home to come back to every night is appealing. 😅
