DH and I are going round in circles looking at things. Do you have anywhere you would recommend? That's it, basically!

Why not stay in a couple of places? Fly into bilbao. Stay at a hotel near the guggenheim. Ideally one with a pool. Them move on to the coast for a few more days.

We're having to combine it with looking after DMIL. DH will already have to travel to go and get her so I think it will have to be in one place really. Sorry to drip feed. When I posted I thought giving the whole story would be boring.

She lives in Spain

Where are you flying into and where does MIL live?

We have travelled around Galicia a couple of times and have found some great hotels in Fisterra and Vigo and have an eye on one in Muxia for next time.

Isles de Cies are just stunning, like the Caribbean but with cold water! You can't stay on them apart from in tents but fantastic day trip. Lugo is a lovely walled town, Fragas De Eume has an amazing walk up to a monastery, Ourense has fantastic hot springs, Santiago is very lovely but sooo touristy. It just depends where you are based in Galicia really.

Vigo (for Cies Isles) or Santiago would by my suggestions (but I don't really know the north coast).

We have done that whole coast up from Lisbon to Sans Sebastian - we loved Ribadsella (Asturias rather than Galicia) - so much to do in the resort for teens - on a river, near mountains, amazing beach for activities and brilliant restaurants - easy to get around on foot and very safe. Also near lots of other places for day trips.

We had an amazing hotel right on the water …. Will try to find a link

Tigresses · 26/01/2023 15:57

Sorry it should be the link to Hotel Ribadsella Playa - The Rosario next door was also fabulous.

MerylSqueak · 26/01/2023 22:36

Ah! I'm so glad you recommend Ribadesella. There's a campsite with lodges there that we were thinking of ( mainly because it has basketball for our son). Thanks @Tigresses

Thank you for those recommendations @Choconut . I'm not familiar with any of these.

The logistics are a nightmare @WarningToTheCurious we're in West Wales, so maybe Birmingham to fly from. Probably London. Mil is in Cartagena. We want to be in Galicia (possibly Asturias) but not as far east as Santander as MIl won't go there at the moment as she's just lost her husband who was from Santander. Others won't be in the South.

Ooh let me know about the lodges please - sounds interesting. I really noticed that there were lots of (well behaved!) Spanish teens out and about. Had the relaxed feel of a place where extended families holidayed together or had second homes.

Really beautiful place.
