Singapore hotels - help please!

We're going to Singapore as part of a family holiday this year, we'll be there about three nights.
Does anyone have any hotel suggestions? It's totally different to the type of places we'd normally go to so don't know where to start find a hotel. Any suggestions would be great.
For context we are a family of three and our little girl will be sharing a room with us. Budget is fairly flexible, I'd say it's about mid range (although could splash out if there is somewhere amazing!)
Thank you everyone

We stayed at the Shangri-La in a “Tower Wing Family Themed Suite Room”. It was a wow!

PauliesWalnuts · 17/01/2023 19:13

I stayed at the Shangri-la too during a two night layover - the one on Orchard Road. Lots of different style rooms for different budgets, not too far a walk from the MRT station, and they have a fab pool which was a real bonus in hot humid weather.

I stayed by the Chinatown food market and loved it. It was less industrial than the centre and the food market food is so amazing - so many different things to try and such good quality. The area is also much cheaper than the centre.

That said, I would have really loved to have a pool as Singapore gets so hot and sticky. On balance I’d probably stay in Chinatown again if there for just a few days but for longer I’d splash out on a hotel with a pool closer to the centre.

Have an amazing time - it’s a glorious city.

We had a special holiday there a few years ago and stayed at the Marina Bay - a real extravagance for us but was fabulous . I think we just did 2 nights and then stayed somewhere else for a couple of nights

In 2019 we had an amazing stay at Hotel Jen, Orchardgate. I had toyed with the idea of a stay at marina sands, but went with club rooms at Jen instead for the fraction of the price. There’s a roof top swimming pool there, it’s above a shopping mall connected to orchard MRT for easy transport and the club rooms were amazing - had free access to food and bar for a few hours every evening.

Darthwazette · 17/01/2023 19:59

I’d recommend Orchard Road. Hotel Jen is great as recommended above.

There are many luxury hotels in Singapore and we tried a few when living there. For me, location and a pool would be key. It gets so very hot.

Don't stay in the Park Royal Marina Collection. It's terrible. Stayed recently and it's was a shower of shit from start to finish.

The Park Royal on Beach Road is fantastic. Great location, great staff, just brilliant.

The Pan Pacific is also great but pricey.

Theyweretheworstoftimes · 17/01/2023 20:05

The MRT makes it really easy to get about and Singapore isn't very big at all. Vast majority of the City is easily accessible these days after all the MRT extensions. If you are taking a little one don't miss the enormous splash pad at the Children's Garden at Gardens by the Bay.

MarmiteCoriander · 17/01/2023 20:11

My favourite hotel we went to 10+ times has now been replaced with condos!

The last time we went, we stayed at Royal Plaza on Scots at the top end of Orchard road. Within walking of all the Orchard rd sites and easy MRT or taxi to other places. The roof top pool is a bit smaller than others, but if you are sightseeing during the days, its more than adequate for a dip.

The other thing to consider is Singapore has changed post Covid. The strict lockdowns have had a considerable impact and one of the most noticeable is the levels of service is really poor now. And it's apparent all over from hotels to other services. It's also impacted high end and the mid market even fast food. So I wouldn't set your expectations too high. Lots of Expats go to Thailand and other places outside Singapore for better service. Clearly this could change.

Panpacific on the Marina had a wonderful executive lounge with great service and food and unusually for a club lounge they served Lauren Perrier.

Mammyofonlyone · 18/01/2023 05:33

Thanks everyone, that's really useful. We're tempted by Marina Bay I think

Would you consider 2 nights somewhere like Marina Bay, then 1 night in Sentosa. With a 3 year old you could easily kill 24 hours at Sentosa between Universal, the Aquarium and the waterparks. Singapore is really small to be honest so whilst you could do this from Marina Bay, there's a convenience factor of being able to pop back to your hotel in Sentosa between activities.

But I wouldn't stay out there for 3 nights and I guess it depends on your flight times as to whether swapping makes sense after day 1 or before the last day.

The Ritz is amazing and has a gorgeous view over the bay.

sausage767 · 18/01/2023 06:49

The Fullerton Bay Hotel is my favourite in Singapore.

MrsDrambuie · 18/01/2023 08:46

I used to live in a serviced apartment Somerset Bencoolen - would give you extra space and a kitchenette which would be handy for a holiday with a young child. Very central, great MRT connections, rooftop pool.

AmandaHoldensLips · 18/01/2023 08:56

Mandarin Oriental is fabulous with incredible views and a gorgeous pool.

Mammyofonlyone · 18/01/2023 16:33

Thanks everyone

@Sling that's what we've decided to do - split between Marina Bay and the Fullerton so hopefully will get a good balance

I agree! The Ritz Millenia was the first hotel I ever stayed at in Singapore and it's still my favourite. Love the big windows with the view while sitting in the bath.

Have an amazing time! We stayed at Marina Bay Sands for 1 night and Mandarin Oriental. Loved both hotels - service was better at MO, which we were expecting, but we loved the pool at MBS

Good choice. We stayed at the Fullerton and loved it though it was a while ago, about 10 years so hopefully it’s still a good hotel.

Raffles….

Jelly4444 · 19/01/2023 09:10

I have stayed at Hotel Jen, the Marina Bay and Raffles before covid. All fabulous. Singapore a great city.

Iwouldlikesomecake · 19/01/2023 09:24

We went to the Hotel Jen Orchardgateway for our honeymoon!

I would recommend afternoon tea at the Fullerton though. It was phenomenal.
