I've been wanting to take DC to Thailand for years and can only ever get time off in August. Is it very rainy? We are from Manchester so can survive the rain but will it spoil chance to snorkel/beach etc. Any tips advice on Thailand in August much appreciated :)

Koh Samui is dry in August.

Thank you for your reply :) Is that due to it's location? We are keen to go to Krabi and Koh Lanta

The Andaman side is wet in our summer and dry in our winter.
Krabi and Koh Lanta will be wet in summer. This may not bother you but the sea may be rougher.

We went with the kids in August we did Bangkok and Koh Samui. It was fine. I think it rained heavily once whilst there but even then it's not that bad as it stopped quite quick and it's warm so didn't really bother us.

I live in Bangkok and it's true that August is in the rainy season (and it RAINS!) - some days it's just the afternoons, others it's all night long. If it rains here, traffic is horrendous. My advice would be to 'do' BKK in the mornings for a few days and then head to a drier island for a proper gorgeous beach holiday. Samui is a good bet (have breakfast at King of Breads) and lunch at Pancake Island.

thank you all

I am thinking of Bangkok -> Chaing Mai -> Koh Toa -> Koh Lanta/Krabi/Phi Phi
We'll have 3 weeks :)
