Family holiday with teens - private pool and close to buzz?

PoloMintPatty · 16/01/2023 07:26

Help! I'm going round and round in circles. Trying to find holiday for four of us, including two teens, at the start of the Scottish summer holidays (June)

They're not particularly active but would get bored just sitting about all week.

One request was for a private pool (if possible to avoid stress with the sun loungers.

But the kids would like to be close enough to walk to some restaurants and feel a bit of buzz. We have done AI and like the ease of it but happy to look at self catering for this reason.

Maybe Portugal? Spain? Basically not too long a flight. Does such a place exist that won't involve remortgage?!

Buzz is a town in Pennsylvania, that's any help?

We have just booked a private villa in Corsica for me, dp and my two teens.

Private pool but walkable to local town with restaurants and bars and also the beach. We have got a hire car included but don’t plan on driving too much.

Not cheap though!

EnglishRose1320 · 16/01/2023 07:53

We are having similar chats about private pool/near things to do etc... we would be looking for the end of May/start of June and for us, to be able to afford a private pool, we would have to be quite far away from things.

So it depends a lot on your budget.

itsgettingweird · 16/01/2023 07:54

Have you considered air B and B?

You'll likely get an apartment block with communal pool in it but it's never as busy as hotel pools and June is quieter anyway as not peak season.

Often residential blocks can be closer to amenities too.

Have a look at feungirola in Spain as they also have a great train service and you can travel into Malaga in 45 minutes for a day out.

Bobbybobbins · 16/01/2023 07:55

Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote could suit (we went as young teens as were able to walk into the town) but it is a longer flight.

Can I ask who you booked through? This sounds interesting ...

Budget is healthy-ish but I'm seeing villas for €6k before flights for a week! Which is too much Shock

Thanks @itsgettingweird and @Ifailed for those suggestions. I'll check both out

I'm willing to look at everything because we're pretty open to most places. Which, in some ways, is making it harder to pin down

Unfortunately that’s about the going rate for a Private pool.
We have just booked a villa in Italy for July. 3 bedrooms and a private pool with things within walking distance and it’s 6000E for 10 nights. Flights are only £300 though

Hoppinggreen · 16/01/2023 09:10

For May/June have a look at The Spanish Algarve, usually cheaper than Portugal. Not clubby but bars and restaurants.
Its an area I know very well so feel free to ask me any questions etc

GardenState · 16/01/2023 09:12

I have been doing same exercise but for three teens and have given up on villa and pool as all too expensive. Have gone for three bed apartment hotel with shared pool as the best compromise. Figure maybe they'll make some friends...

thekingfisher · 16/01/2023 09:18

Have a look at Baobab in Tenerife self catering but with hotel services and we've had a private pool. Walkable or cheap Uber into nightlife

SausageInCider · 16/01/2023 10:03

as if €6k euros is the going rate for a private pool! A quick look on Airbnb for Cyprus, Portugal and Spain will give you lots of options for around 1.5k for the same time!

It was through a local travel agent. Sorry can’t be much more help!

Annasgirl · 16/01/2023 12:18

Use Spain-holidays.com

I don’t have a villa but we rent through there - we rent a private villa with own pool. We like to stay remote but a few years ago when the DC were younger we rented in Nerja - very busy town, loads of private villas with own pool. 2 hour from Malaga airport , well within budget.

criminallyvulgar · 16/01/2023 12:21

We have had villas with private pool on various Greek islands through Ionian Island holidays which fit your bill exactly if you would consider Greece. June is a perfect time of year and a lot if their villas are walking distance of villages, tavernas etc.

Eatglass · 16/01/2023 12:22

We stayed at Marni Village in Crete last year, they do apartments/villas with pools but also have 3 communal pools. 5 mins walk to two busy villages with lots of restaurants and a few bars, and a 15 minute walk into the more lively and young Hersonissos

Eatglass · 16/01/2023 12:23

We booked direct with the hotel and flights with jet2.

TrevorOptions · 16/01/2023 12:24

Not read the thread but my teens like private pool and hot tub. Somewhere that’s walkable to bars and stuff. Then you don’t have to nag them about ‘going out’

Could look for an air b and b in Portugal, Spain or Canaries ?

Second Lanazarote
Have a look at villa plus, example below

https://www.villaplus.com/destinations/villas-in-spain/villas-in-canary-islands/lanzarote/puerto-del-carmen/villa-marisa
We've done loads of villas over the years, so much more relaxing than the sunded rush!
Visit supermarket, fill fridge with drinks, ice cream etc.
Simple breakfast and lunch in, eat out in the evenings
Puerto del Carmen is only about 15 mins from airport, Playa Blanca about 50 mins in a cab.
Went twice last year, once by ourselves, our are 19 & 25. Then in Aug as a family.

CandleCandleCandle · 16/01/2023 14:55

How about Cyprus, Paphos perhaps?

itsgettingweird · 16/01/2023 16:17

Also look at booking.com

PoloMintPatty · 16/01/2023 19:16

Thanks so much for all of the replies. I'm working through them as we speak!!

Marni village looks very interesting if I can get flights to tie up and there are definitely places here I hadn't thought of like Cyprus

What about the French Riviera? Somewhere near Nice or along that coast. We were looking at 4 bed villas along there during the summer holidays and there were loads under £3k with pools (we’re now going to south west France instead where it’s £1700 for a villa in a beautiful town there with air con, 4 bedrooms and private pool, booked through vrbo).
