Short haul, October, nervous traveller

I have the chance to go away in October by myself. I'd love to go somewhere warm and sunny but I'm so anxious about going by myself and not being able to communicate or find my way around.

I'd love to be brave enough to head to a greek island and lie around on the beach reading but I'm not sure I am brave enough.

Can anyone recommend somewhere easy to get to? Would any of the Spanish package holiday destinations work for me? Would that mean just getting off the plane and onto a clearly labelled bus? No need to work out how to get transport elsewhere or buy a public transport ticket or anything? I'm not snobby about public transport, just totally lacking in confidence.

I know it's utterly pathetic to be in my 40s and afraid to travel by myself but I am. I'm hoping that if I maybe do one easy trip then I might get over myself and get braver?

I'd want to fly from a northern airport rather than London.

I did consider Jersey because then I could speak but it's not particularly warm there and seems like a bit of a cop-out option since I've been there before.

A package holiday would be fine. Yes, you get off the plane and the rep will be waiting for you after you have collected your bags. The rep will put you on a bus and you will be taken to your hotel. Just remember, thousands of brits jet off on package deals every year without issues. Have a great time!

By the way, the buses are chartered by the holiday company, not public buses

You could certainly go off to a Greek island by yourself if you wanted to. If you booked a package then the bus/taxi would be waiting for you at the airport.

I’ve been to Corfu several times and it’s a lovely safe, friendly place (friendliest locals of anywhere I’ve visited). Depends when in October you’re looking to go, early would be fine, but by mid October the weather is getting unpredictable and things are shutting down. Though almost everything would still be open in corfu town.

spain would also be a good bet.

We’ve done transfer services and they are fine. If you don’t book direct you can book your own transfer it’s all fairly clear and in English.

Most airports have taxi ranks and that’s real easy as well.

Go for it! I’d be surprised if you landed somewhere where there aren’t English speakers.
