Solo winter sun in Feb - Morocco? Canaries?

My partner has kindly suggested he'd support me going away for a week by myself, before I move from part time to full time work around the end of February. The logic being that we can't afford for all five of us to go to an all inclusive type thing during school holidays, but we can send one of us now. I'm on board!

We normally do Eurocamp things so this is well out of my comfort zone and knowledge base. Looking at up to £1500. Leaving from London.

I'm leaning towards somewhere large that I can get lost in, probably with food included: I think I'm going to be spending my time mostly lying in the sun by a pool, reading books and overeating buffet food. I'd really like a spa, exercise classes too and a gym. I like a very green, gardeny aesthetic, overgrown tropical vibe ideally or nicely manicured is fine. Just not parched with no shade cover. I don't really feel the need to do exploring off site for this jaunt, or being near a beach, so a resort would be fine.

I've tried looking at sites and there is so much choice and I feel like I just don't have the calibration to know which ones are nice. Any suggestions? Advice? Will they all be fine? All reliably warm enough to lie in the sun? I was looking at Morocco or Canaries, but open to other options. Thanks in advance!

Costa del sol is looking pretty decent at the moment, not that different to the canaries and much closer. Not sure I'd go to Morocco as a single female traveler.

Sorry, I've just seen your budget. Playa Blanca in Lanzarote is lovely, I've stayed at the rubicon palace which is all inclusive and very good.

Twizbe · 14/01/2023 10:37

If you're going by yourself I'd say canaries over Morocco.

Morocco can be hard for a lone female traveller.

borntobequiet · 14/01/2023 10:45

I’ve been to Morocco a few times by myself. Essaouira in February was mild and a bit breezy, but sunny enough to sunbathe on the roof of the riad.

Sensible dress and demeanour will generally protect you from unwanted attention. People will always try to sell you things, just say no politely.

By yourself I would definitely say the canaries. I would look at either Tenerife or Gran Canaria as they tend to be less windy with warmer temps in the winter months. We were in Tenerife at Xmas and it was 24 every day.

I would go adults only in the Canaries. I'm not sure about spa facilities but the H10 hotels are a good place to start looking.

LordSugarTits · 14/01/2023 11:41

I wouldn't go to Morocco as a lone female. Nice way to ruin your holiday getting pestered by dirty fucking pervs. No thanks.

Tbh, I'd probably go further than the canaries, you can holiday there as a family. What's the budget?

ToBeOrNotToBee · 14/01/2023 11:41

Kasbah Africa in Morocco.

Thank me later.

Shiraztonight · 14/01/2023 11:44

I wouldn't go to Morocco as a single female, anytime I was on my own, I got harassed and I wasn't walking around in swimsuits or even shorts and t - shirts, mostly knee length or longer dresses and a scarf

Hotel Botanico in Tenerife fits your description criteria, or perhaps not as luxurious but great food and does have some manicured garden areas is Seaside Los Jameos in Lanzarote.

namechange5575 · 14/01/2023 18:26

Right! Thanks for all your input. Re Morrocco, I know what you mean, I was there 20 years ago and it sounds like the sexual hassling hasn't got better since then. But I thought if I was getting transfers straight to a resort and staying there the whole time I could avoid that? The weather was the temptation. Kasbah Africa looks gorgeous, but I think I'd save that to go with family rather than solo.

Rubicon in Lanzarote did look great, as did the Seaside Los Jameos, but the main pool will be shut, and I got worried about lower temperatures in Lanzarote. So was looking more at Gran Canaria and particularly Tenerife. Hotel Botanica is beautiful and I'd love to go there, amazing greenery and amazing spa, but it's closer to £2k than £1500, which I think might be hard to justify. Will keeping looking at the H10 resorts. Any more recommendations very much welcomed.

Hi OP any of the 4/5 star hotels at Costa Adeje Tenerife should be good and hopefully more on budget for you.

I went to Agadir last year, I felt completely safe in the hotel (Riu palace) and and out. Admittedly I didn't venture to any of the souks on my own, but a walk up and down the promenade daily was absolutely lovely.

Lincolnforever · 15/01/2023 21:49

I would go to Mexico. The standard of AI is fabulous and if you want a fly and flop with guaranteed warm it's perfect. Outside of half term you could get something for your budget AI I reckon.
