Boho / chill / traveller vibe beach dream in France/ Spain / Italy? .. does it exist ?

Hello

We visited quiet part of Ibiza last year and stayed in Cala Vadella which was a dream. Really really chill - unbuilt up / few bars & restaurants on the beach. family friendly , gorgeous sandy small cove/ soft sand / apart-hotel with a pool. Felt a bit traveller vibe but in Europe.

the main Criteria
unbuilt up ( don’t want any big hotels / night clubs )
a short -5/10 min - walk to a small sandy beach / cove
A short walk to some beach bars / restaurants for sunset beers / cocktails
relaxed friendly family vibe.

Looking for something similar even better? But NEW - I’d love to hear any recommendations please in Spain ( not Ibiza / formentera) / south France.
TIA

San Sebastián (although it’s a city so might be too built up)

Juan Les Pins in France

She was going to suggest Formentera!
I know it’s not on your list, but what about a Greek island? I love the boho vibe of Ibiza and Formentera and fell in love with the Greek island of Tinos for similar reasons.

en.tiki-hutte.com/Tiki-Hutte Literally ON Pampelonne Beach just outside St Tropez. Spent a week here for my 40th birthday. Lovely spa and seaside restaurants. There are lot of different beach clubs and restaurants up and down the beach. Could sit on the terrace and look at people being boated to and from their yachts.

www.riviera-villages.com/Toison-d-Or-Resort-Spa/Les-Activites?field_theme_target_id=30 Or Toison D'Or next door.

If you like Cala Vadella you would like Cala Tarida just down the coast

Or pretty much anywhere in Menorca except Cala N Bosch

Helsnorth · 14/01/2023 16:00

Wow Thanks that looks soo gorgeous but really want to explore France : Spain :Italy next trip - I’ll keep Tinos in mind xx

Formentera
Ile de re
Lots and lots of Ibiza. It's my favourite place.

Sadik · 14/01/2023 16:21

The almeria coast might suit, somewhere like Agua Amarga. I used to go to Cala San Pedro nearish there years back, but I think it might be the wrong sort of traveller vibe for what you want!!

countdowntonap · 14/01/2023 18:03

@Helsnorth we did Menorca last year. It was lovely but I agree with the above - avoid Cala N Bosch! Definitely hire a car and arrive at the natural beaches early morning for a Formentera-esque vibe.

Can highly recommend these two places from the Jardí de Ses Bruixes accommodation:
Rural HotelSon Granot hotelsesbruixes.com/en/hotel-rural-son-granot

and boutique hotel in Mahon hotelsesbruixes.com/en/boutique-hotel-ses-bruixes

Both small and beautifully designed with personal service.

Parts of the Camargue?

Parts of the Camargue?

The Camargue is very beautiful - might be a bit too rough and ready for what the OP's after though! Admittedly I haven't been for a few years.

Have you looked at Sicily, OP? Parts of the interior are so wild and beautiful, and there are still some unspoilt areas of coastline.

It's also years since I've been to Les Calanques, near Marseille, but that might be worth a look too (someone has mentioned Juan Les Pins).

MangosteenSoda · 14/01/2023 18:18

Costa Brava. Look at Calella de Palafrugell, one of the beaches around Begur or Cadaques (this one is harder to get in and out of so wouldn’t choose it if you want to day trip a lot).

MissAmbrosia · 14/01/2023 18:35

I love Juan Les Pins but boho chic it is not.

Mydogatemypurse · 14/01/2023 19:06

I know the exact place... like Thailand but with tree houses and beach bungalows, hippy shack shops with handmade jewelry, ancient ruins and volcano walks. Campfire restaurants and live music.

Misbeehived · 14/01/2023 19:10

Ischia maybe?

Underparmummy · 14/01/2023 19:15

Agree on JLP - also love it but it doesn't really match the vibe described.

Laquila · 15/01/2023 10:17

@Underparmummy and @MissAmbrosia it is a LONG time since I've been there and tbh I can't remember a huge amount about it - I was nearly in tears after the first day of a grueling (to me!!) cycling holiday and cursing my boyfriend, whose idea it had been 😂

Hoppinggreen · 15/01/2023 10:19

Try Isla Canela/Ayamonte in Andalusia, but not in August as most of Madrid is there

OhamIreally · 15/01/2023 19:40

I know an amazing place I absolutely adore- it's got more built up in recent years but I'm not telling as don't want even more people going sorry!

fussychica · 16/01/2023 09:23

Cabo de Gata, Agua Amarga on the Costa Almeria. Or Western Algarve, somewhere like Sagres. Both have stunning more wild beaches and are very underdeveloped.

Helsnorth · 16/01/2023 14:05

Thanks so much everyone for all your suggestions - that should keep us going for a few years - they all look amazing and will do some proper deep dives this week x going to be sooo good to get away and chill
