Croatia - where best to go?

Would love to visit Croatia this summer - family holiday inc young adults. My ideal would be a (fairly private) villa + pool, walkable from a village with restaurants etc. Planning to have a car and like the look of the Split area but that city's too big to get a private villa nearby and can't seem to find anything. Even better would be near a beach too! Thanks for any suggestions.

Nin is lovely. We didn't stay in the old town of Nin but just to the north, near the Queen's Beach, an area that has a few stores, bars, restaurants and a few mins walk to the beach. We rented an apartment in a building of 3 apartments and shared the pool (although was only us and the landlord there) and it was really nice. I'd recommend hiring a car though. Our favourite place was Zadar which is around 30 mins drive, just a lovely town and the most stunning sunset so that would also be a nice place to stay, although I don't think the beaches are as accessible there.
