Has anyone flown after 6 months pregnant?

I want to book a holiday for May and I will be about 6.5 months pregnant. The airline will take me so long as I have letter from obstetrician. DOctor happy for me to fly then when I spoke to her yesterday (though I am only 15 weeks pg now). Insurance company won't cover any medical problems related to pregnancy though once you are 6 months.

I am only planning to go to Austria (to a Kinderhotel) so the flight is only 2 hours with a 30 minute transfer at the other end.

Would you do it?

Shorthall, hour and a quarter long flight at 34 weeks. No problems at all. Think it depends how you think your pregnancy is going. If I had had any problems, I would not have done it, but as it was, I didn't think twice. It was my second child though so I felt more confident in recognising the onset of labour.

I went on a camping holiday to France when I was 31 weeks pregnant. No flying involved but insurance company wouldn't insure me.

This might help

I was 27 weeks we went to Iceland and Norway (roughly 3hr flights all round) and no-one blinked. Am ppl's insurance wouldn't cover them - unless I radically misunderstood ours said yes to everything.

Perhaps I need to shop around on the insurance. This is my third baby so I am not worried about premature labour or anything.

I travelled at about 7 months pg for both my pgnancies, 9 hour flights each time. Found company that would insure me, let me rack my brains and I'll let you know what they are called.....

orangina · 05/02/2008 09:42

ok, here it is.... they cover travelling after 26 weeks (or whatever) pregnant that all other policies won't cover.
Mind you, if you are going to Austrai, won't your E111 cover you health wise?

pukkapatch · 05/02/2008 09:45

yes i would do it.
fwiw, mom flew 10 hour flight at 8 months pregnant. various reasons why she had to. and would not recommend it. but at 6.5 months should be fine. i think i flew at 6 months as well.

bratnav · 05/02/2008 09:46

Yes I would. I went to the carribean when I was 30 weeks, the airline were lovely, had a free upgrade and everything!

We have a high quality yearly policy as DH works much of the time in USA, I was covered until 7 months (flew back that day) I'm not sure you will get cover much past that.

IlanaK · 05/02/2008 09:54

Thanks Orangina! I checked about 10 other companies and the varied from not covering 12-18 weeks before due date. The one you linked to is 8 weeks which will work fine for my trip.

Thanks again!

I will do it as well in a few weeks and will be 34 weeks . going to my mum though 2 hours away so not too worried about medical stuff as I can be taken care there if needs be (will be upset to go in labour witout Dh though!) and will have E111 which worked wonders when Dh had to have is hernia done.

Pleasure.... enjoy your trip!
