On a package group holiday can some travel from different airport?

Hi, would really appreciate some help as my stress levels are rising and it's causing arguments with DH.

So we're very lucky in that DH's parents have booked an all inclusive holiday for the whole family. The problem is that we live 6 hours from everyone else and neither me or DH can drive. The airport we're booked to fly from is the local to everyone else airport, which I understand but is causing us stress trying to find a way there with kids and luggage. Kids are also ASD just to add to the fun. A cab is £765 a coach takes just over 8 hours with stops and it's 5 changes on the train and about just over 7 hours total which is how we've previously visited and it's usually a nightmare with tantrums and stress and we've never done it with youngest so throwing in luggage for 5 for an 11 day holiday I think will tip me over the edge!

I'm hoping there's a way to change so that we can fly from our local airport and meet them there. I get that flight times could be different and there's likely a charge to change airports which we would of course pay but is it doable?

DH says as it's all booked as a package deal we wouldn't be able to change but chatting with friends they seem to think that you could, but none have actually done it so it's all hearsay.

Does anyone know if this is possible? Sorry it's so long I probably could have just kept it to the one line but didn't want to drip feed lol
Thanks Grin

Can you fly from your local airport to theirs?

ChessieFL · 11/01/2023 14:36

Instead of getting coach or train there.

My friend did this and met us at the airport in Spain, but it was done when it was booked. Who ever is lead passenger will have to phone and ask the question, and see if possible and what the charge will be.

Have you looked at domestic flights?

For some reason neither of our local airports seem to fly there

It's good to know it can be done then. For some reason DH is reluctant to ask his parents as he doesn't want to seem ungrateful even though I've said we will of course pay for any additional charges so I can't see what the problem would be. I'm not close enough with them myself to just ring for a chat and ask which could be a whole other thread of how uncomfortable I'm going to be on this holiday! 🤣

YANBU. Hard to tell if it would be possible, it would depend on the company and flight options they have, but surely he can’t think one of those horrendous journey options (which I assume you will face to do both ways) is preferable to a 5 minute call with his parents to ask them to check?!?

jackstini · 11/01/2023 15:23

Do you know the holiday company so you can call and check first?

Do flights from your local airport exist?

Are you all sharing an accommodation (e.g. villa) or do you have a separate room? If the latter, should be pretty simple

underneaththeash · 11/01/2023 17:23

I reckon they will if your FIL calls up.

But learn to bloody drive.

SmartWatch · 11/01/2023 17:25

Have you tried phoning a cab company for a specific airport quote? Might be less.

You could also put a post on local FB and see if any local can drivers would do it for a couple of hundred if going that direction etc.

gogohmm · 11/01/2023 17:32

Speak to the package tour operator, they will be able to tell you if it's an option. Not all destinations go from all airports

Happygone · 11/01/2023 18:06

They never used to allow this but might be more flexible now. I would see if you can fly down and stay with your PILs the day before or something. Sounds like a horrible journey
