Last two weeks in October - Best weather and teen recommendation

So, very lucky to be able to be considering a one-week break in October (last two weeks for half term). I have two boys - 13 and 15 then. Looking to go anywhere where the weather might be nice and will interest the teens.

Considering:

  • Tokyo (Younger son's dream destination, meant to go before Covid struck)
  • New York (Again, had trip cancelled for Covid)
  • Caribbean (Never been, not sure if teens will enjoy and the weather)
  • Cuba (My bucket list, not sure if teens will enjoy)
  • Egypt (Again, my bucket list but not sure how safe it currently is and weather in October

Budget would be £4K in total for flights and accommodation. Not keen on all-inclusive unless it was the Maldives or resort-style holiday which we have never done.

Should I be looking nearer afield? I went to Lanzarote for the first time in Feb last year and loved it. But was with an ex and we were happy to sight see and chill, not sure if the teens will like it.

We are going to Morocca in May for a surfing holiday and rented an apartment. Inspiration, anyone? Thanks!

Quite a few of those aren’t happening for £4k
Maybe look at Cape Verde, there are mixed reviews but we loved it (with teens), there’s not much to do but for a week it’s fine. We snorkelled and did a couple of trips but mostly chilled and the dc did some water sports as well.

only the flights to Tokyo or Nyc would it half your budget.

I had booked Tokyo for the same dates in 2020. Flights were 1.5k back then. Now I can’t find it lower than 2-2.5

ive booked Nyc for august this year. 2+5 yo we’re paying nearly 2k. Accommodation cost us 1.5 so again nearly all your budget.

October for Egypt should be nice weather. Not too hot as in summer so easier to move around. Haven’t been so can’t tell you about the money

I think flights to Cuba are expensive as well for the few times I’ve checked.

Thanks @Hoppinggreen and @EasterIssland ! Looking at the BA sale, I can get flights and accommodation for Tokyo for a week at just under £4K. My boys get a two-week half term then so maybe the flexibility in dates account for the slightly cheaper fare and accommodation.

I will have a look at Cape Verde but a friend went last year and she said there was not much to do and it was mostly all-inclusive type resorts which put me off a little but maybe because she was in one! 😂

I've been to both Tokyo and New York so those ones are just for the teens... I would love to find somewhere new we can all enjoy.

We generally don’t go AI but we just booked it as a last minute pre back to school trip.
Stayed at the Melia Tortuga on Sal and had a lovely 2 bedroom suite for around. £4k
Kids loved it

Something to bear in mind... if you go to Cuba and then want to go the USA you won't be able to get an ESTA, you will have to get a visa instead.
