Mosquitoes!!

We're going to Cancun in March. I am literally mosquito food - if there's one in a ten mile radius, it'll get me. And they swell massively. I want to be extra prepared this time.

I've heard of taking a B complex and/ or garlic pills before?

I will also have my one year old with me who I will need to protect too. I have a pram shield but can't use deet on littleies.

Honestly, Avon Skin so Soft is the best thing I’ve used. I get bitten instantly and have a massive reaction! Just spray all over and job done. Added bonus of being moisturising after a day in the sun.

Incognito roll on. Buy in Holland and Barrett or Amazon. Can be used for babies. It’s doesn’t stink, and isn’t highly toxic like most.
Its really good, but says 5hrs lasting so remember to top up, and won’t cover entire night.

We live in high mozzie area July-October approx and I have used on Ds since he was 6 weeks.

Overnight make sure you use net

I react badly to mosquito bites. I often end up with cellulitis. My doctor told me to take a daily antihistamine if I was going anywhere where I was likely to be bitten.

I also try to wear long sleeves and trousers to avoid being bitten. I've got some lovely lightweight tops with high neck and long sleeve. They are a sheer material, so cool, but enough to stop the biting.

Also, remember long sleeve Pajamas, especially for toddler. Far less likely to get bitten on arms overnight.

I would use the patches you stick on kids’ clothes for your little one, they are supposed to be really good, and I find the wristbands you can wear help me. Mosquito nets on beds if you can. You might get lucky though, species vary, I react really badly to mosquito bites in some countries and not in others. Thailand was my worst.

Also, citrus scented products help. I use the lemon body butter from M&S and also lemon or lime shower gel on holiday. Sounds stupid but really helps x

I sprayed this on my ankles before going out too - I had about two bites in two weeks with using the spray on my ankles, lemon shower gel and the lemon body butter 👍🏼

Thanks for this thread OP, we're looking at the Italian lakes this summer and apparently they're like a mosquito convention Confused

In the past as someone LOVED by the feckers wherever I go I've had success with -

  • Vit B12 taken daily a week before departure then daily while there,
  • those plug in thingies above when we go out for the evening,
  • this repellent (not too stinky)

Meant to say the B12 is supposed to emit a whiff from our pores that humans don't smell but they hate

Oh and also / a daily antihistamine while away to help limit reaction if you are bitten

DEET the highest strength you can get. I am mosquito fodder and it's the only way.

Every biting insect on the planet has my number. Smidge is the only thing that reliably works for me, it's life changing. Even stops horseflies, which is a major success.
