Nice or Menton for solo holiday in August?

Hello - I have a few days child-free in the summer and would like to fly into Nice and spend a couple of days on my own. But I need to be able to blend into the background, potter around shops, sit on the the beach (in a beach club?) with books and have a nice hotel where I don't feel self-conscious. I just want to be invisible, soak up the lovely warmth, eat ice creams and read undisturbed - and also have a poke around some interesting shops. Does this place exist?
Thank you xxx

I also loved choosing a different café each morning along the Promenade des Anglais and watching the world go by.

Nice is lovely and perfect for you going by what you've described. Have a great time x

Antibes is lovely - and closer to Nice airport. Nice has lots of museums and beach clubs.

And the old town and castle hill are lovely.

There's a really good local train service along the coast, so you could visit as many places as you feel like.

I’ve been to Nice alone. It was good. Just as easy to blend in as it would be in any city. Sat on the beach, went to Café’s, went shopping. It’s a lovely stretch of coast too if you want to travel a bit further when you’re there. The other place I’ve been alone and loved is Lyon - amazing city.

Thank you all! So you would stay in Nice? Any hotels which aren't too expensive and I can just disappear? I was in Paris for a few days on my own, once, and no one looks at you. And I loved just wandering around all the shops.

Stayed here recently and can recommend. Big enough to be anonymous, five minutes walk from the Prom des Anglais.

I dream of spending January and February in Nice, indeed when if I win the lottery I’ll buy an apartment there, overlooking the Med. 😍

Thank you all! And yes I too dream of spending the winter months in the south of France! Would love it. Will content myself with three days.

I really liked Menton and would love to go back. Nice obviously has a wider range of possible day trips and you could do Menton from there as a day trip, but Menton had a nice vibe and would be a good place for mooching around if you wanted a quieter option.
