Croatia - Summer Family Holiday Recommendations

We are looking to try somewhere new this year and I am considering Croatia.

We are 2 adults and DD (12) DS (11).

Accommodation wise we'd be looking for a nice villa with a pool.

We'd like to be able to take some day trips, perhaps do some watersports, eat out at a few restaurants but also get a shop in at a supermarket for some days round the pool.

Please can someone please suggest what areas in Croatia might provide an ideal base for us. Thank you.

Hi I haven't been to croatia before but have just booked up for May to Cavat in croatia , its close to Dubrovnik but cheaper to stay and looks very picturesque. I have booked an apartment with private pool.

We had an amazing holiday with DD 13 and DS10 at Supetar, Brac Island. It's centred around a small harbour, fabulous to people watch and watch the amazing boats! We stayed just outside the centre ir was a lovely coastal walk on an evening, the sea is breathtaking. Kids used to jump off a little pier with the locals early evening. Beautiful restaurants and enough to do in supertar if you want things a little busier. We hired a car and visited some beautiful unspoilt coastal villages.

Slightly off topic but @flippyfloppy do you mind sharing where you stayed? I’ve had a look at hotels in Supetar but wondered if an Airbnb would be better.? You have painted such an idyllic picture of that area!

Not at all @Jamaisy82 we booked through jet 2, Waterman Beach Village. It was almost like a campsite with individual bungalows, they were a really good size with two big bedrooms. We requested a sea view one and it was really near the private beach, beach was very unspoilt with a man sitting at the side with a fridge full of beer! It was one of our best holidays because we had no expectations but it took our breath away! We hired a little speed boat one day and anchored up at some gorgeous beaches and spent a day snorkelling!

Sorry that should have been addressed to @rheasmummy !

Haven’t stayed in a villa there but had a fabulous time near Sibenik with 2 DC a few years ago. Stayed with Roan (similar to Eurocamp ) in a lovely mobile home right on the beach. Highly recommend a trip to Krka national park - beautiful ! Such a lovely country with amazing scenery (although have to say it seemed more expensive than other European countries )

We have been to Porec, in the North of Croatia. Stayed in a lovely hotel on an island in the bay. Valamar Isabella I think. Lovely old town, lots of watersports, paths to cycle through the wooded coast. We chose this part of Croatia as we were able to have a day trip to Venice which was fab.

We stayed in Pula last summer. Gorgeous. Near Slovenian border too, and it's like 10 miles through Slovenia to the Italian border. Loved it.

We have booked to go to Rovinj in Northern Croatia. Looks beautiful, gorgeous town and beaches and nature park with amazing food and wine. Just hope it lives up to expectations! It was between Rovinj, Split and Dubrovnik but we found a lovely hotel in Rovinj and Split and Dubrovnik seemed a bit more adult oriented. Might try and do Dubrovnik without kids sone time!

We love Croatia and have been to a few different areas. Our favourite is Porec. It's got a lovely little harbour, market, all the shops and bars/cafes. Also, a manmade beach with inflatables, slides, etc, alongside a lovely wooded area. We stayed at Valamar Crystal hotel. It's set in the woods, has everything you need. There's a little tourist train that goes through the wooded area to the harbour

Pula is a lovely place for a day trip. A Roman Colleseum, an old castle, a beautiful old square with cafes and a Roman temple. It reminded me of England 50 odd years ago, when you could wander round old ruins without high entry charges. They also do a lovely, orange pear liquor, which is much easier to drink than the local plum brandy, Slivovic.

For SUPETAR (Brac island) we booked Hotel AMOR. It's a lovely 4 star property, close to a sandy beach which is rare in Croatia. It's a 5 minute walk into Supetar and the port. 40 minutes by car to Bol, where the famous Golden Horn beach is. I'd recommend 4 nights on Brac island, 2 nights in Split, 7 nights along the mainland coast. We actually did a Family Multi Adventure type week - that agency was called Green World Holidays who do activity fun weeks for families with teenagers. Very good, kids loved it. This whole Dalmatia region is fabulous. If you have 1 night left, try TROGIR which is very close to the airport. We decided on our last night there, only 10 min by taxi to airport. Hope that helps.
