UK weekend break

LadyChamberlain · 04/01/2023 18:47

After some recommendations please for a UK weekend break for DH and I. Somewhere with decent pubs, and a somewhere nice to walk/take in the sights whether it be nature or pretty architecture.

We're NW based and have done:

Lake District (many, many times)
York
Chester
Whitby
Most of North Wales/Anglesey
Stratford-upon-Avon

Many thanks!

Northumberland. We tend to stay near Wooller as it’s a great base for all of the sights, mix of good pubs, lots of countryside, and castles!

The Hope valley.

Norwich is great for pubs. Also lots of history, independent shops, huge market. Great for a short break.

Absolutely fucking miles and hours from the NW. I concluded when we went last summer that it was 100% not worth the journey.

Alnwick or Bamburgh.
Or I know you've done the lakes but Airbnb at Dacre about half an hour walk from Pooley Bridge. Amazing pub on your doorstep and the Marmalade loop to walk, also boat trips from Pooley Bridge to Ullswater, or walk to Aira Force and get the bus back.

Ironbridge- lots of interesting museums, boat trips, walks and pubs/restaurant and nice Shropshire countryside for walking nearby.

BookwormButNoTime · 05/01/2023 08:23

North Norfolk Coast - the Brancaster / Thornham area. Although a long way from the NW. Amazing pubs and beach and country walks galore.

If you're prepared to fly, the giant's causeway and the rest of the coast around there is stunning

Wow, lots of great suggestions, thanks everyone 😀
