Any ideas welcome please? I am planning to go in late April myself & partner. We want a nice relaxing break with a bit of sightseeing. I think we will do a Friday to Monday. Any recommendations on things to see, places to stay. TIA

Are you intending to fly to Palermo or Catania? We flew to Catania in September and travelled on to Syracuse staying in Ortigia. It is very beautiful and plenty to do for a long weekend including boat trips, historical sites and hundreds of places to eat and drink. You can take tours up Mount Etna too which has been quite lively recently if you are interested.

Sicily is a big island OP and Fri-Mon isn't long. Personally, in April I'd probably fly to Catania and base myself in either Taormina or (as the pp suggests), Ortigia (the ancient, walled citadel of Syracuse), both of which have lots of options for hotels, apartments, restaurants, bars and sightseeing.

we stayed in an air band b in taormina approximately 4 years ago in April.
It was lovely but very expensive for eating out etc
Also it was really quiet in the evenings lots of places not open and it got very cold very suddenly in the evenings bring a warm jacket

Taormina is beautiful. If you're only there for a weekend, I'd recommend staying there. It's the jewel in Sicily's crown.

Castelmola is just beautiful if you're flying into Catania. There is a regular bus from there down into Taormina aswell and you can take the cable-car from there down onto some of the most beautiful beaches you will ever see. We stayed here and it was amazing, we could see Mount Etna erupting from our balcony.

Well if you're wine buffs I incidentally had the most beautiful bottle of red that I have ever tasted at the restaurant next door to that hotel 🍷 The grapes had been grown on the volcanic soil on the slopes of Mount Etna. I can't remember the name of it now but for a long time I looked for it here and online but I never could find it sadly!

We had a long weekend in Palermo one April. It is a fantastic city, so much history and things to see. We had really good weather and managed a beach afternoon at Montebello too. We stayed in an Airbnb right on the quattro canti,.it had a roof terrace and was right in the action. Loved the energy in Palermo and found it friendly and felt safe
