Have the possible option of going with the 2 teenagers and dh in July.
Anyone been? It looks amazing, and would be a once in a lifetime trip for us.
Hints, tips and thoughts please.

We went in early March 2020, had to cut our trip short because covid really kicked off around that time but we had a fantastic 4-5 days anyway!

There's so much to do there. We went quad biking with zebras and climbed to the top of Le Morne mountain and saw incredible views from the top. We paid for a day pass to a really nice resort - Club Med and had trapeze lessons there as part of their included activities, your teens might love that! We had planned to go swimming with wild dolphins but missed out when we had to go home early.

We go in 2 weeks for our 2nd visit.. It's a beautiful island with lots to do. We were there in August 2013 and really enjoyed it especially the food which was superb at The Maritim. However, it was low 20° which is pleasant but not tropical and, at times, the pool was too cold plus the evenings were not great for out door dining. We had been recommended to stay in the NW of the Island in their winter as the weather is better.
I'm hoping that by returning in the Summer season, we will experience the "whole" tropical experience.

Tell me the weather in the North (at Triox aux Biches) - haven’t checked spelling - is great and hot in late May 😀😀

MissFritton65 · 06/01/2023 22:45

@SomeChickensAreJustTooBig we go to Trois aux Biches on the 25th; I'll report back!

Trios au Biches Golf Resort and Spa - 5 star - same place?

SomeChickensAreJustTooBig · 06/01/2023 23:16

We went in June last year. It was pleasant but not stinking hot; warm enough to sit out and read but with some overcast and wet days. Did nothing to spoil our enjoyment of it though.

We stayed on the east coast near Belle Plage and took catamaran and snorkelling trips on the lagoon, as well as an 'underwater walk'.

It was very good value to hire a private driver and take a tour of the south of the island; we did insist 'no shopping' but were still delivered to tourist two shops! Quick in and out and bought nothing though, no big deal.

We'd go back in a heartbeat, but probably at another time of year as I am a sun-worshipper!

@SomeChickensAreJustTooBig when we went to the same region in August previously it was warm but not hot. It's a beautiful island with a reasonable amount to see.
I'm hoping that it will be much more tropical when we go later this month.

I got married in Mauritius in 2003 (first husband) and I was truly blown away by the beauty of the island and the wonderful people that live there. Went for 2 weeks in march time and the weather was perfect. Had one day of tropical rain which cleared up after a couple of hours. We stayed at La Pirogue (not sure of the spelling) which from memory I think was near the sugar beach resort. We hired a driver to take us around the island which was fantastic value and we visited some amazing places. I'd return in a heartbeat.

Okay thanks! I guess there’s a good chance that May will be hot, then, at least, from what you’re saying… I’d love to hear how you like the resort too! 😀

@SomeChickensAreJustTooBig 👋 from Beachcomber Tros aux Biches; our first 36 hours here were torrential rain due to a cyclone however it has been glorious since! The resort is fantastic as are the staff; we are on an "escape package" which is effectively all inclusive which is just as well because things are expensive - we can eat in any of the al a carte restaurants ( you need to pre book) but there are supplements for quite a few dishes that can be up £30! However the quality of food and drink is amazing. Be aware that men do need long trousers and closed shoes for dinner, we were warned so prepared, but we've seen lots of people turned away from the restaurants for not being correctly dressed.

Went in around 2005. Was really lovely.

As others have said, I wouldn’t go in our summer as it’s their winter. We went in December and it was fabulous.

We had a villa type place right on the beach - it was arranged for us though as we were there for a wedding. It was catered which was brilliant.

I remember going for an amazing boat trip but can tell you the names of anywhere now.

My abiding memory is also of looking up at the southern hemisphere night sky. Amazing.

Coffeepot72 · 29/01/2023 18:01

@Simplehappyzen i was relieved to hear you had decent weather in March! We go in 5 weeks time, I am keeping my eye on the forecast!

Grft1 · 07/10/2023 06:27

I wouldn’t bother .The place is scruffy dump ,the food is crap, the vibe is moody at a best and anyone who says the beach’s are beautiful have clearly only been on hiking holidays.Car hire is cheap ,it’s just a shame they don’t fly to get off this hole that is Mauritus

We had a wonderful time there. People were lovely and kind, some of best food we've ever had, beautiful beaches and we've been to Maldives and beach we were on was equivalent, few less tropical fish. Taxis for day were cheap to tour island. We would happily go back. We went in our summer but we prefer slightly cooler temps and was around 26C and sunny. We did stay at 5 star resorts which probably helped with the beaches and food but ones we passed were also gorgeous and on excursions were gorgeous. Not too much wildlife but loads of water based activities. Would happily go back and rare for me to go back to places. Stayed at Sugar Beach and Long Beach. Ile aux Aigrettes was great as well. Preferred it to Maldives.

A small town or city with a port can offer a beautiful mix of beach and tropical island vibes, with excursions, water sports, and more.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 10/10/2023 23:19

I’ve been and really liked it. Must have been back in around 2004/5.

We stayed in a beautiful house on the beach, and a lovely woman came in and did the housekeeping/ cooking. That was amazing.

We did a really great boat trip to some caves I remember.

My favourite bit was sitting on the beach at night and looking at the southern hemisphere sky. The only time I’ve ever been south of the equator.
