It's very rare that we get away but my mum has a big birthday approaching and I'm trying to book a long weekend away. We have primary age dc and a baby as well as parents and me and dh. Looking at a cottage/air b&b somewhere like Derbyshire, Peaks, maybe Whitby/Scarborough. Would love the Lake District but it's over 3 hours from us and will be too far with the little ones.

Would like somewhere with some nice scenery, a few quaint shops and pubs, maybe a nice tourist attraction or something like chatsworth house. But other than that I'm stumped. If anyone has any glowing recommendations for nice areas that would suit a family please throw them at me. I'm struggling and trying to keep everyone happy.

How about Bakewell or surrounding villages? Lovely area and close to Chatsworth, Ladybower reservoir etc

Yorkshire Dales? Anywhere within a 15 mile radius of Leyburn

Had considered Bakewell or Matlock but wasn't sure if they'd be really busy. I'm so rubbish at planning weekends away because I never go anywhere so I have no idea what these places are like and get bogged down in research that makes me just want to give up!

Baslow looks lovely! Very close to Chatsworth. Have you been?
