Black Forest - anyone been? What did you do/where did you stay?

I would absolutely love to visit the Black Forest area in Germany! I'm hoping to make it this year in May half term.

Has anyone been? Where did you stay and what cool things did you see and do? It's likely to be me, DS12 and DS5. I live in the south but not sure if I could face such a long drive there and back. Would flying and car hire work? Or is public transport pretty good?

It would be great to hear if anyone has any advice! Tia

Hi. We’ve booked to go to the Black Forest with Eurocamp in August. We are nearish to Freiburg. About 15 mins from Europa park which is meant to be really good. We are getting the overnight ferry from Newcastle to the Netherlands so no help there! Looking for ideas too

We’ve been to Freiburg a few times. You can fly to Basle and use public transport to get there and get around quite easily. You can also go up to Titisee on the train

We were due to go to Europa Park in May 2020 but had to postpone and eventually cancel due to Covid. We’re now going in May 2023 but staying in Rust rather than the park itself as we couldn’t get as good a deal. We’re flying to Basel and hiring a car. If your kids like theme parks, Europa is supposed to be one of the best in Europe, but there’s loads to do in the area including some summer toboggan runs which look amazing.

Love this area of Germany. We came here a few years ago and stayed in this place-

Direct flight to Basel, hired and car and based ourselves at the campsite above. Tourists travel free by train in the region. We went to Baden Baden, Freiburg ( fantastic place).

We went to Europapark which was truly amazing. A German Disneyland without the queues, cross between Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Lots of similar ( and the same. They had "Soarin') rides. Apparently it was created by Disney imagineers.

We climbed a mountain near Freiburg, and slid back down via Europe's largest chute.

We went exploring the Black Forest, which was fantastic, a bit of Grimm's fairy tales adventure territory, abandoned houses in the woods, that sort of thing.

We had breakfast in Germany, ice cream in Switzerland and dinner in France one night. Loved it, and highly recommend the region

Titisee is lovely. Europa parc is fun

Go on the train. It's only 3 hours from Paris to Freiburg!

Picking up on this we are staying at that campsite next week, in a mobile home. Any good? Any tips before we set off?
We're driving and staying in Alsace then into the Black Forest
