Please be kind. I know this is really simple but I start to doubt myself and I just need someone else to agree I’m right.

I’m planning a trip to an EU country. The entry requirements are that the passport has 3 months left on it and it not more that 10 years from date of issue.
I’ll be travelling in May 2023.
The passport was issued in April 2014.
It had an expiry date of April 2024.

That’s ok, isn’t it?

Yes fine

Sounds fine to me. Your passport was issued for 10 years, so will have 11 mths valid for your trip.

WhatsitWiggle · 02/01/2023 12:20

Yes that's fine.

UK passports used to have up to 9 months validity added if they were renewed before the previous passport expired eg if you renewed with 6 months left on your old passport your new passport would be for 10 years and 6 months. Post Brexit, the extra months are not recognised so your passport end date is 10 years after the start date.

Yours is already 10 years after your start date.

You’re fine!

What can catch people out is that time left on the old passport used to be added to the new one, so a passport issued April 2014 might expire in say June 2024. And with the new rules, those extra months that take you over 10 years no longer count but people sometimes miss it because they just look at the expiry date.
This of course does not apply to you, your passport was only issued for 10 years, you will have 11 months validity, so all good :)

Hope you’re going somewhere nice!

I don't think you are silly to check with us. Sometimes even really obvious things have me second guessing myself!!

Thanks for being kind. I tend to over think things. And with things like this you can look at it too long.
