Car hire Italy different pick up and drop off

Hello, has anyone ever picked a hire car up from one location (airport) and drop it to another airport (in another city)? This is what we're hoping to do but wanted to ask if anyone has done it and if it worked out fine?

We hired from Rome Fiumicino and returned to Pisa airport three weeks later - no problems apart from trying to fit three car seats in the back seat in the heat of the airport carpark for over an hour!
