Cruise with a 5yr old tips and advice

It's been a life long dream of mine to go on a cruise.
After years of saving it looks like we may be able to finally fulfil that dream in 2023.

It would be me, DH and DS(5).

Any tips for first time cruises with a child?
What company/destination/cabin type etc.

I'm thinking of either a cruise from Florida or maybe a Med cruise.
Budget is about 4-5k.
It would be DS's first trip outside the UK.

Probably royal Caribbean because you have a child. Lots to do. Bringing my 3 year old on a royal Caribbean in may.

Celebrity is a nicer boat but less child friendly and is smaller.
I’d recommend booking a balcony and also consider going from Europe to suit your budget as with going to the USA you will need, ESTAs, flights, hotels etc which will easily eat in to your budget.

Have a read of the Cruise Critic website before booking as this is a useful website on all things to do with cruising.

Disney cruise all day long. Was our best holiday but a clear mile. Zero negatives, it was a perfect holiday - kids were 5 and 7 at the time. Now the kids are older (12 and 14) we have booked a royal Caribbean for next year.

You cannot beat a Disney cruise for kids. Stay in Europe or you’ll blow most of the budgets on flights.

Disney Cruise. You'll pay nearly double the cost of P&O and the like, but if you can afford it, it is amazing. I'd go for a week in the Med or perhaps a Norwegian Fjord cruise. It is magical and the service is fabulous.
