Any advice would be greatly appreciated, looking at euro ones. Thanks

A friend recently went. 2 adults, one young teen DC.

The thing they mentioned which struck me was they had tried to save money by not booking a seat. A grandstand seat? They intended just to sit on the grass on a bank.

they really wished they’d got seats. Apparently it was mad busy, meant they had to get there dead early to get a spot, couldn’t all leave the spot.

don’t know which one it was I’m afraid.

Netaporter · 29/12/2022 00:06

You need to decide which one you want to go to first. The European ones are at different times in the calendar. They all have pluses and minuses and fans generally know what circuit they’d like to visit e.g Ferrari fans consider the Italian gp the event of the season etc. the Abu Dhabi GP has a real party feel with big name music concerts thrown in as well as the tickets. Wherever you choose, the accommodation is insanely expensive and it is a really long day for each session. As a pp says, book a seated ticket. Official tickets are sold here

Was hoping to book a package deal, as it's just me and my son but I'm totally clueless, I guess I should ask which he'd prefer but any any reputable companies recommendations would be hugely appreciated!

How big is your budget? Sporting Agenda might be able to help. Gulliver Sports Travel would be ok too. Motor Sports Travel have a good selection.

annabannan · 29/12/2022 12:50

Thanks will have a look. I'm expecting it will cost around the £2k mark? Well hoping not much more!

If you fancy the Italian I can recommend an excellent apartment 45 minutes away overlooking lake Como

Hellosunshine1993 · 29/12/2022 13:06

Not Europe but we recently did Singapore which was incredible and much cheaper than I was expecting.

flights were £500 each, 3 day grandstand tickets were £180 each (we got them on early bird release in the April) and then hotel for 5 nights was just under £1,000.

JustLurkingAway · 29/12/2022 13:10

Have a look at formula escapes, the guy I've spoken to from there was very helpful.

Cost depends really on whether you're happy to camp/want a hotel, whether you're looking for general admission (no seats) or a grandstand seat etc.

If by any chance you did want to go to the Dutch GP, drop me a PM as I've got 2 tickets I'll be putting on their resale site in the new year as we're unable to go.

Grand Prix Adventures out of Dundee, Scotland are experts at this sort of thing. I know the owner and I know he's very knowledgeable and passionate at providing an exceptional service and experience.

There were some very good deals for the Barcelona one a couple of months ago, I'm sure it was advertised on Holiday Pirates if you look there. From memory it was flights, hotel (7 nights) and tickets for less than £500 pp, I think it was even half board. I was very tempted! We usually DIY.

userh79 · 29/12/2022 19:28

@JustLurkingAway you just be Verstappen fans if braving a Dutch GP 😂

Travelzoo was showing the same or a similar deal too…

Remember it always rains in Belgium so not great for sitting on a bank… or potentially seeing a GP 🤣

Yep! We entered the ballot not thinking we'd actually get allocated any then booked a holiday as we'd completely forgotten about it...to then get given themGrin

userh79 · 29/12/2022 22:06

@JustLurkingAway typical!

chipsandpeas · 29/12/2022 22:13

id say look into doing it DIY as you have more control imo
i done a package deal many years ago to silverstone and it was a bit of a nightmare as you were dropped off and picked up when you were told, if you wanted to hang about the track for a bit you couldnt
every other race ive been to in the UK and abroad ive done DIY
only reason id go for a package is if tickets were sold out and deffo get grandstand seats as its a lot easier than general admission

WarningToTheCurious · 29/12/2022 22:14

DH did a GP package a couple of years ago - to the Abu Dhabi GP though rather than to a European one.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 29/12/2022 22:22

My info is years out of date but we went to Monza once. It was really easy to get to Monza from Milan's central station (there were trains laid on especially). We were actually staying in Verona so it took us around 2 hours-ish to get there by train, don't necessarily need to stay that far away, but there are options to stay outside of Milan if the accommodation is crazy expensive. We didn't have seats, but it was still a great atmosphere and we got a good spot. Seats would be better though.

Friends went to Abu Dhabi and had an amazing time with concerts and all sorts going on.

annabannan · 29/12/2022 23:26

I have so much research to do, thank you everyone for all the tips and links, he's a Lando Norris fan so any tips keep them coming as would like to surprise himSmile

Netaporter · 30/12/2022 06:38

Well the Belgian GP is Norris’s home GP but I’d say for a young man choose the Abu Dhabi GP. Party atmosphere, hotels are all excellent and the general restrictions of access to alcohol make it less rowdy. My friend just took both her sons this year. Headline act was Kendrick Lamar. They had a fab time, weather guaranteed also. Have fun!

userh79 · 30/12/2022 09:24

@Netaporter never realised Norris was part Belgian till you said and I googled! Will be riddled with Verstappen fans though, and those bloody flares!

Netaporter · 30/12/2022 09:38

@userh79 I think the verstappen fans tend claim him for their own and at the Dutch GP.

userh79 · 30/12/2022 09:59

Suppose his team's orange helps too! Come to think of it I vaguely remember him interviewing and saying he was thrilled with the orange turn out for him Grin

annabannan · 30/12/2022 19:44

@netaporter sadly don't think my budget can stretch to Abu!

I took my husband to Spa the Belgium Grand Prix this year for his 50th as it is his favourite circuit. It was awesome and an amazing iconic track to visit. We booed it through a sports holiday organisers though which I would recommend if you choose spa.
