Family adventure/tour holidays. Which companies?

We have started to look at holidays for August 23 and fancy something different to the usual beach holiday or short city break. I’ve found some interesting family tours with explore.co.uk but never used these before so wondering if people have experience of using them of if they can suggest other companies?

Destination wise considering Thailand, Japan, North America. It will be 2 adults and an 8 year old.

Many thanks in advance.

Intrepid

@BookwormButNoTime thank you for the suggestion

Intrepid are excellent. Also, a good chance there will be Australians in the group (I love travelling with Australians). Exodus are pretty good too. I had a bad experience with Explore and wouldn't travel with them again.

Thank you @Mercurial123. Will take a look at Exodus too.

Intrepid. We have done 2 trips with them, highly recommended

Another vote for Intrepid from

Intrepid again. My sister and I have both used them very happily and would again

beccahamlet · 28/12/2022 16:00

I recommend Exodus too.

AnotherOneHereq · 28/12/2022 16:44

And you can use Tesco points on Intrepid

Popsicle30 · 28/12/2022 16:54

Thank you all for the recommendations to look at Intrepid and Exodus. I’ e started to have a look at their tours.

For summer ‘adventures’ we have used:
Families Worldwide
Steppes Travel
Audley
Cuba Direct (can you guess?)

I’ve been impressed with itinerary ideas with Stubborn Mule Travel

MrsHamlet · 28/12/2022 20:42

I have also used Audley (much more expensive) and Kalpak, who specialise in Central Asia. I'm about to book a trip with Best of the Caucuses.

I’ve just come back from an Explore holiday and it was great, not a family tour though. Am also looking for a family tour for the summer so interested in what you find! I’ve been looking at Explore, families worldwide and exodus for trips to SE Asia.

For those of you who have travelled with Intrepid, can I ask what the accommodation was like please? Also did you take rucksacks or cases? We'll be me and DH and 2 teenagers, so although we love the look of some of the tours they are already murmurings about the use of 2 and 3 star hotels and I don't want to have 3 weeks of moaning!

The trip notes often say if rucksacks are preferred. Even then people bring suitcases.

Hotels and guest houses are usually clean and in a central area. If you want luxury they offer better accommodation but it's a lot more expensive. I've never had a problem with if it's an issue for your family you'll be paying a lot more for basically a bed in a nicer room.

pinkpinkeverywhere · 06/01/2023 13:22

Thank you @Mercurial123 . I think recent more luxurious holidays have spoilt my husband, whereas I think as long as it's clean, we're not going to be there for too long and it's literally somewhere to sleep. The reviews are great and no one has mentioned accommodation, so I thought I'd ask here how people had found it to try and reassure DH. Teenagers aren't bothered, they're Scouts and love nothing more than camping and not washing for days 😁

MrsHamlet · 06/01/2023 17:38

I camped all round Alaska and South Africa with a few dorms thrown in

We've just come back from a very successful Family Holiday in Croatia. Our daughters are 13 and 16 years and they definitely needed more than an all-inclusive type. We booked through Green World Holidays beat all of our expectations. Met lots of like minded families, actually smiling teenagers throughout. Never thought a multi adventure type holiday could be relaxing, but this was a perfect balance of fun and chill time in the sun. Green World Holidays only specialise in Croatia, so we'd love to hear from anyone else, with tips in Europe for 2025? Not long haul please.
