Open to ideas. For me and DP who unexpectedly has some time off. Seven or maybe 10 days at a push. Ideally adults only. I'd like some sun, DP likes food and culture. Thinking short haul if we only have a week... Specific hotel recommendations welcome!

We have done Gran Meliá Palacio D'isadora in Tenerife just after Christmas. Lovely as they are still celebrating saints day then! Great hotel. Interesting fishing village to wander to but anything else would be a trip.

Lanzarote. Some lovely walks, seafood, Cesar Manrique architecture.

Gambia. Kairaba hotel was lovely.

I'd second Tenerife for what you are looking for.

Cape Verde. Not short haul as such (6hr flight) but flight times mean you still get half day either side. We went end of November and the weather was 28-30 everyday. It's quiet and not very developed, but great for relaxing. And short haul prices but with long haul weather.

Friend of mine is off to Morocco on Saturday. She said it was the cheapest she could find.

Lanzarote. Lovely walks, mild and sunny, great food.

Short haul won’t guarantee sun. I’d go further. Caribbean makes sense if decent hotels are available. Florida if weather ok. The bigger Caribbean islands do have their own culture.

10 days gives you enough time to be a bit more adventurous. Try South Africa (fly overnight both ways). Great places to stay and lots to see. Kenya is good too. Egypt has plenty of culture. All better than Canary Islands.
