Sensible 18 yo's booking first independent mini break to Prague - Where's the best area to stay?

Most of the city centre is fine. Are they looking for a hostel/hotel/apartment?

We stayed at the Hilton Old Town and felt really safe there, it's well away from the tacky tourist centre but close enough to walk everywhere.

@MissAmbrosia - they want as cheap as possible, mix of male and female.

My opinion is save on the air fare and splurge a bit on accommodation but what do I know

I always felt safe in Prague, always stayed in centre, but have walked it all and the outskirts.

All areas are safe! But the best accommodation would be I think: roadhouse hostel. Its a small, cozy, clean hostel which makes everyone feel like friends/family. They cook dinner there, it's 1 min away from the Charles Bridge and they organise 2 activities in the evening. (1 fun 1 going party) I have stayed there 3 weeks almost, during 2 visits.
