Booking flights when passport is about to expire....

Having a brain fart moment here ......Over the next week or so we want to book our summer holiday - we'll book our own flights direct with the airline as we always do.

However my passport expires early next year so how does this work when booking the flights as don't you have to give your passport number when you book? Or can you leave that bit until nearer the time you fly?

We usually tend to confirm all the info at the point of booking so I can't remember if you can make the initial booking without passport details. If you can , how long is it before you have to give all the details?

Nope, you don’t have to give a passport number till you check in. You’ll be fine!

I've booked with both Easyjet and Air France this year, and neither asked for passport details until check-in. Obviously I can't speak on behalf of other airlines. You could always book, and then if it does ask for details then just don't proceed with the booking.

Brilliant, I thought as much!

Thank you both

My passport arrived Monday and I applied on the 13th. Nice and easy.

At the booking stage it's pretty much universally the case that the airline just wants your money...🙄

Passport details only usually become important when you do your APIS (Advance Passenger Information System), which for most destinations can be done pretty much at the last minute, just before check-in.
