We are back from our holiday and had a fabulous trip all based round the cheap flights I found. We ended up doing:
1 night in Rabat
Train to Casablanca and 6 hours there
Train to Marrakech, 3 nights in Marrakech
3 days desert safari
3 nights in Fes
Train to Rabat 4 hours to look around before and evening flight home.
Thoughts:
Marrakech and Fes do not require any more than 3 days. Once you have explored the medina and the gardens there is not a lot else to do.
The desert safari was wonderful, but long drives. The camel trek was hard work when you are in your 50s! But worth it.
We were there during Ramadan which was interesting and we shared 2 iftar meals with Moroccan families during our trip - this was a real privilege.
The Morrocan police have really cracked down on scammers and are visible in tourist places. Young men still try to trick you by sending you the wrong way or telling you streets are closed. We took the free walking tours with guru walks and had some great local guides who we were only too pleased to tip with what we thought the tour was worth.
The raids were great, we also stayed in a family home, village guest house and desert tent during our trip.
Do feel free to ask if you are planning a similar trip.
