Morocco at Easter

diian · 20/12/2022 18:09

So I have booked return flights to Rabat for £95 and have 9 days/nights in Morocco with DH at Easter.

We arrive in Rabat at 7pm, so I am thinking:

2 nights in Rabat
Train to Marrakesh
2 nights in a riad in Marrakech
2 nights/3 days Desert safari
www.tripadvisor.co.uk/AttractionProductReview-g293734-d12651728-3_Day_Sahara_Desert_To_Merzouga_From_Marrakech-Marrakech_Marrakech_Safi.html
2 nights in a different riad in Marrakech
Train to Casablanca
1 Night in Casablanca
Train to Rabat for 7pm flight back to UK

Does this seem a sensible itinerary? Any insight, recommendations or words of wisdom welcome!

I’d choose Fes, or Meknes, over Casablanca. Fes has the extraordinary medina; Meknes is a former imperial city with some interesting monumental buildings.

Watching with interest. I have always wanted to go to Morocco.

@midsomermurderess Thank you. I think we will do Fes. New travel thoughts are:

1 night Rabat
Train to Fes
2 nights Fes
3 nights Fes to Marrakesh desert safari
3 nights Marrakesh
Train to Rabat via a Casablanca.

6 hours in Casablanca
Evening flight home from Rabat

We are back from our holiday and had a fabulous trip all based round the cheap flights I found. We ended up doing:

1 night in Rabat
Train to Casablanca and 6 hours there
Train to Marrakech, 3 nights in Marrakech
3 days desert safari
3 nights in Fes
Train to Rabat 4 hours to look around before and evening flight home.

Thoughts:
Marrakech and Fes do not require any more than 3 days. Once you have explored the medina and the gardens there is not a lot else to do.

The desert safari was wonderful, but long drives. The camel trek was hard work when you are in your 50s! But worth it.

We were there during Ramadan which was interesting and we shared 2 iftar meals with Moroccan families during our trip - this was a real privilege.

The Morrocan police have really cracked down on scammers and are visible in tourist places. Young men still try to trick you by sending you the wrong way or telling you streets are closed. We took the free walking tours with guru walks and had some great local guides who we were only too pleased to tip with what we thought the tour was worth.

The raids were great, we also stayed in a family home, village guest house and desert tent during our trip.

Do feel free to ask if you are planning a similar trip.

Trains booked through ONCF - Rabat to Casablanca 55 mins £2 2nd class, Casablanca to Marrakech 2h 40 £7 1st class, Fes to Rabat 2 hr 50 mins £8 1st class.

I can see your post is from a while ago but I was wondering about the weather? Thank you

diian · 07/02/2024 16:53

Hi @Bythesea99
The weather was perfect, about 20-24 degrees most days. It was cooler in Rabat and Casablanca as they were coastal and has a nice breeze. The evenings were very pleasant in Fes and Marrakesh.

Just seen 'riad' was corrected to 'raid' in the previous post!
