Am looking for somewhere in the US that’s like Florida but not Florida…

Sorry for the confusing title, need to add context.

I am looking for location ideas for our 2023 main holiday, have booked a few little week long trips but due to expecting our first in Jan, she has put a bit of a spanner in the works (as our planned big trip next year was all inclusive adults only)

Context on the Florida but not Florida - Since the abortion law changes in the US, DH and I are no longer willing to travel to states that have restrictive abortion laws, Florida was our back up trip for next year (as we try to go every year) but it’s now out. So am looking for US based recommendations that fill the below ‘brief’

Has good weather, will be travelling either May, September or October

Won’t require long road trips to get to attractions (max 1.5 hour drives at a time due to DD, 3hr round trip essentially)

Villa type accommodations available (readily) with heated pools etc. Ideally wouldn’t be in a residential area, as we like the villa complexes in FL

We aren’t fussed about Disney type attractions and usually travel to FL as it’s just easier in terms of good sized accommodation, lots of stuff to do in a central area and the weather is always nice, but would like somewhere with things to do, not the middle of no where in the Forrest.

Does anyone have suggestions?

We’d be going for 10-14 days and budget is £7k

California!!
But a long flight

lljkk · 09/12/2022 14:18

Hawaii?
May: Puerto Rico?
May/September: Oregon
September or October: Maine, CT, MA, NY?

MintyFreshOne · 09/12/2022 14:20

Lol this is silly wrt Florida since their new abortion laws are still more liberal than most of Europe!

I hope you aren’t planning to go to Portugal or France or Germany ever again, since they have stricter abortion laws than Florida.

(Just go to Florida)

US Virgin Islands

Arizona is worth a visit too.

Such an odd comment. What makes you think I go to any European countries with poor records on maternal healthcare either? Or womens rights for that matter

Hawaii is a serious contender, but am worried about the driving aspect, as would love to see more of the islands if we went, but that might be tricky with DD being In the car for too long (and not wanting it to be a road trip holiday)

California - LA and Palm Springs

Thank you, will take a look at the different islands as have no idea which of the three would be more suitable

So you don’t travel in Europe? There’s like maybe three European countries that have abortion laws more liberal than Florida.

I’m almost certain you are fine travelling to EU countries. Just go to Florida, instead of trying to find a place like Florida but not.

Onesailwait · 09/12/2022 14:43

Palm Springs is very nice. Lots to do , great weather. Only downside is a longer flight

Labraradabrador · 09/12/2022 14:43

Does it need to be US? Lots to explore in the Caribbean with reasonable flight times. I haven’t been to Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico, but had a fab holiday in Trinidad and Tobago - lots of variety in activities and easy to get around/relatively short distances. I liked that Trinidad was less touristy, but there is so much variety within that region (Caribbean broadly) that it is easy to find the kind of holiday that suits you.

lived in Hawaii for a bit and it is lovely. You can do all of Oahu in a day, so not sure what your concern is around drive times? At the time I lived there it was actually quite difficult/expensive to island hop, but I think that was a temporary situation when one of the major local operators had gone out of business. I would never fly to Hawaii from uk with a small child though- it is a seriously long flight.

Dittosaw · 09/12/2022 14:44

SouthCarolina?

Dittosaw · 09/12/2022 14:54

Actually never mind

Nope, I don’t like travelling close to home, doesn’t feel like a ‘proper’ holiday.

Maybe you can stop making a fool of yourself and either reply with a suggestion or move onto another thread,

Maybe you can actually consider Florida’s law is in line with or actually more liberal than the vast majority of countries on earth. Absolutely clownish to avoid Florida on this point alone.

For context, you can access abortion up to 15 weeks there. There aren’t that many countries that allow abortions after 15 weeks so I guess you had better stop travelling pretty much anywhere except North America and post-socialist states in Asia.

strawberry2017 · 09/12/2022 15:10

Virginia is lovely, so is Arizona had fab holidays in both during May.

Oh sorry she can’t do Arizona either because it has recently enacted a 15-week abortion ban which is still more liberal than virtually anywhere in the EU but still not good enough for the OP 🤷‍♀️

What's got up your ass? Either contribute nicely or keep your nastiness to yourself.

The point is that a lot of people like this will avoid travelling to Florida or similar, but happily post pics of themselves in France or Germany, which have far stricter abortion laws! It doesn’t make any sense and it should be called out.

icegoose · 09/12/2022 15:27

Anyone can make the choice not to travel anywhere for whatever reason they like.
OP is asking for alternatives to Florida, it is a reasonable enough question.

fyn · 09/12/2022 15:44

North Carolina coast - the outer banks are beautiful to explore. You can definitely rent villas and the weather will be nice. Lovely towns/cities like Wilmington and Charleston in SC to visit. Myrtle Beach if you want something a little more Orlando vibes.

MissConductUS · 09/12/2022 15:45

Cape Cod, Boston and NYC in September. Cape Cod is gorgeous with lovely beaches.

SiobhanSharpe · 09/12/2022 15:49

Either of the Carolinas?
Louisiana Gulf Coast?
(not sure about abortion regulations in any of those states. But I’m sure it’s searchable)

But that’s not what the OP does

why is this getting to you so much?
