Unvaccinated children travelling to US

We're travelling to NY at end of January and my DS who is 13 is unvaccinated. From looking at the CDC information he can enter the US, doesn't need to quarantine, however I need to attest that he will undertake a test between days 3 and 5. Has anyone travelled to the US with an unvaccinated child and did they get their child tested after arrival?

Thanks

We went last year, there's no actual place to log the test so we just said we'd do it and never thought about it again.
I did read of people on forums taking a home test to do and photographing with the negative test just in case.

Why don't you just get him vaccinated?

Phoenix75 · 08/12/2022 22:08

@Daisy03 thanks I thought that might be the case. Great idea about the home test. Thanks

@OhIdoLike2bBesideTheSeaside because we left the decision to him and he didn't want it. The rest of the family are vaccinated.

Took my unvaccinated children (age 7 and 11) earlier this year. We didn’t test them although we took tests with us. No one checks up on the tests so they are pointless.

Just thought it would make life easier
But if the tests aren't even checked no point in worrying

I've had 4 jabs and had covid 3 times it doesn't stop it 🤦🏻‍♀️

Take a lateral flow test with you. Test between 3-5 days in to the holiday and take a photo of it showing the date and time.

We just came back from New York, DD14 is vaccinated but we were unable to load her vaccination details or attestation form. We didn’t even get asked about her vaccination status let alone taking Covid tests.

Do you often leave critical decisions to your 13 year old child?

Surely you have researched and realised that there is good evidence the vaccine is a good thing?

We just took some lateral flow tests with us and said we'd test when asked, no-one asked to see them and as a previously poster said, there's no where to officially upload the result.

@NoAlexa do you realise that once they are teens they are considered able to consent/not consent to medical procedures? It's no longer up to the parents.

When we get consent forms for vaccination from secondary school we have a note with it to say that the ultimate decision is with the teenager so they can have it without your consent should they wish and vice versa.

We told our 13yo that it was his choice but we strongly advised that he did. He chose to have it but if he'd decided against it then we would have had to respect his decision.
