Tahiti- anyone been?

Going to Tahiti for 16-18 nights. Any recommendations where to stay? Which islands other than Tahiti are good?

We definitely want to do Moorea, probably skip on Bora Bora as seems out of budget.

Moorea is one of my favourite islands. Often overlooked as its so close to Tahiti. Getting the ferry across is easy enough. Lots of water life to see and swim with.
Might be whales if right time of year.
Theres a tour to a fruit juice factory which is fun and an outside restaurant with a glass floor at The Hilton, where sharks swim under as you eat.
Papeete is a busy, noisy place. I love it - the main market is good and there's lots of little streets/ shops to wander around. A tour of the whole island of Tahiti is good to do too. There is a Gaugin museum out past Punaauia.
Tikehau is an amazing island - it has pink sand and tonnes of fish to snorkel with in the lagoon. We got a bargain price to go though. Maupiti beautiful but very quiet. Huahini beautiful and landscape to explore. Bora Bora too full of Americans on honeymoon.

You can go to seafront in Papeete in evening and get street food from lots of food trucks which is good.
