Last minute European Winter city break

user120222 · 02/12/2022 20:55

Planning on a last minute winter city break in Europe either just before Christmas or in early January. Probably for about 3 or 4 nights (depending on location and flight times).

Anu suggestions? I went to Paris a few months ago so that is off the table.

My current ideas are Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Rome, or Barcelona. My worry with the first 2 is the weather!

Any other ideas welcome.

If I was to pick I would choose Rome. Beautiful city x

I went to Copenhagen in winter (I think it was Feb). It was great but it was very very cold!

I also went to Amsterdam one year just before Christmas. It wasn’t any colder than it usually is here and it was lovely to see all the lights - even just all the old townhouses windows all lit up.

As long as you take a warm coat the weather gives you a good excuse for lots of pit stops for drinks!

@Fleur405 The cold isn't too much of an issue as long it's not freezing. My main worry is if it were to keep raining and I'd have to keep finding shelter.

Valladolid!
Get the train from Madrid.
Incredible place.

I'd say if you don't want rain you're better going where there might snow instead, but then you say you don't want freezing either. In Europe in the winter you could be lucky or not.

Maybe Seville or Cadiz, or Lisbon where it's meant to be mild?

Salzburg

We're going to Budapest in January. It'll be freezing but snow is better than rain. Easier to wrap up warm than keep dry. We've been to Krakow in February and Amsterdam late November before. Love a frosty winter break

Malaga. The Christmas lights stay up until 6th December.

Amsterdam and Barcelona are fabulous cities for a short break. I have also been to Budapest in December and loved it - the Christmas markets were on and we went to the outside baths while it was cold outside which was a great experience.
