Finding cool jeans in New York - advice please style godesses

I am going to New York in a few weeks and won't have long to shop (work trip), but desparate to get a cool funky (and flattering) pair of jeans while I'm there. Where to go and which brands to look out for?
Am size 10 to 12 and 5ft 4" (so can anyone advise what US size that would be). I find shopping for jeans bewildering even in the UK.

US size 6 to 8.

I'm no style goddess but I think Macy's is supposed to be good for jeans. But not sure if they would be cool or funky enough for you. Barneys is the trendiest designer store.
