Hi there
Any suggestions of hotels or similar set ups for a family of 2 adults and 2 kids 6,3 and a baby.

I just need two nights but I can't find anything that nice and most cost about 800£!

It might be as I need it for Christmas Day

Thank you

The Alps covers a pretty big area. Can you be more specific about where?

stopbeeping · 30/11/2022 16:39

French alps, it doesn't really bother us too much where as we will have the car and are not opposed to a few hours drive, we will be staying near Bourg- saint-Maurice not far from Courcheval

Thank you 🙏

Go to the cheaper area Cour is expensive. Tignes?

Sunsetintheeast · 30/11/2022 19:58

I don’t think 800 is THAT bad though.

I also think £800 is about right tbh.

You are looking for Xmas day, in a luxury hotel, sleeping 5 ( which is usually two connecting rooms or more expensive 1 bed suites with sofa bed). Is that breakfast included? Or dinner as well?

Anything for 5, in a ski resort in winter is going to be expensive. And it’s 3 weeks beforehand so any cheaper places will be booked up months ago, or usually have min number of nights.

Our place, also alps, would sleep your 5 (2 bedrooms with cot). It’s €240 a night Xmas day. But was booked about 10 months ago, and we have 5 night minimum stay. And it’s not a luxury hotel, with pool or food.

Yours cheapest option for 5 will be an apartment. But very rare to only allow one night, as a 2 bed full apartment will take host a full day to clean and turn around afterwards

If you go on Booking.com you can type in French Alps and select hotels only and ratings 8 plus and there's a range of prices coming up.

You’ll be lucky to find anywhere that will let you book 2 nights over xmas and not the whole week. Given you’re a family of 5 and presumably that means a suite or interconnecting rooms and you want luxury too, I’d actually say 800 EUR per night with no minimum stay actually sounds like a really good deal. If you really need to get the cost down maybe rethink how luxurious or not you can cope with.

You could also do that, but it will throw up results anywhere in the alps which is a massive region and they won’t necessarily be in or near ski resorts, which I’d presumed is what OP wanted given the post is in skiing.

If there’s no desire to actually ski then that makes the search somewhat easier as the budget will go further!

Gah sorry just realised this in holidays and not skiing so actually searching booking .com is probably a great idea! Massive presumption to assume alps at xmas must mean skiing - sorry.

Thank you this is helpful I'll take a look
We usually stay in a holiday house because we have a baby and it's easier to have a kitchen
The £800 didn't include dinner, just literally one room with a sofa bed and a cot and then a bed for us

Last month we stayed in Spain for £1500 for the week in a really amazing apartment brand new with an indoor and outdoor pool gym sauna etc!

We have left it last minute it was just an idea really but it's going to be too expensive to make work I think
I've not booked anything for ages my husband has been doing it so I have taken my eyes off the cost of things

My husband wouldn't mind a day of boarding but I won't do it I'm too scared of injuring myself I've spent years in and out of hospital it's made me worried I'll hurt myself and end up in hospital again
The boys might have a lesson but have never gone
It's on the back of staying a week in a home swap in the mountains that I'm looking for a couple of days in a hotel
Doesn't need to strictly be two nights but I don't fancy a week in a hotel with a baby and three year old I prefer the space
Just resent the expectations of cleaning to perfection in holiday let's when they expect you gone at 10 am too!!
