Would you take a car seat for a 5yo on a overnight flight so they were more comfortable

there is a car seat that is approved by the airlines(most are not), it has wheels on the bottom and a retractable handle so if your little one goes to sleep you can wheel them through the airport etc. plus its easier to strap them in when it gets realy busy - one less hassle to worry about

Make sure it has the airline approval sticker on it or they won't let you use it.

Most car seats are not approved for use on the plane and you wouldn't be allowed to use them on there if that was the case.

We always take our car seat with us, but it goes in the hold with our luggae. The booster cushion on its own came in the plane with us but not allowed to use it.

I think which airline you are flying with will determine whether they allow car seats for use on the plane. The American airlines seem to have it as almost compulsory but BA for example does't allow them I think.

The car seat with retractable wheels (we had this one) is used a lot in the US but it is wider than some seats on planes so you have to check how big the seats are even if the airline allows it on.

Also I'm not really sure that a car seat would make a 5 year old more comfortable really, though they probably would be safer.

We've just come back from Australia, and didn't take one for our 3 or 5 year old as we were told couldn't use on the plane. Kids both slept really well and were great without one.

Check you can use yours in the country you are going to , as we couldn't use ours and had to hire them. (they looked less sturdy than our British ones but, they had the important Australia safety stamp!)

We flew to Oz with a three year old and she was comfortable without a car seat.

sounds pretty uncomfortable to me - wont he/she prefer to lie on your lap anyway?
